Advantages: Very good grip in all weather, especially in the wet. Disadvantages: The cost and fact that they wear faster.
Two French brothers called Edouard and Andre Michelin, owned a rubber factory. One day, a cyclist with a punctured pneumatic tyre arrived at their factory. This tyre was glued to the rim, and It took over 3 hours to remove it and repair the tyre, which then had to be left overnight to dry. The next day, they took the repaired bicycle into the yard for testing. After several hundred Meters, the repair failed. Despite this setback, they were still enthusiastic about this pneumatic tyre, and proceeded to made their, own, which didn't need glueing onto the rim.
In 1891, they took out the first patent for a removable pneumatic tyre. The rest as they say, is history.
I was lucky enough to buy a car with these fitted, and I can say the amount of grip is brilliant. They do cost more than most tyres, and the noise is slightly louder, but ...

Advantages: Well known brand Disadvantages: Go out of shape.
Over the years, I reckon I have had most makes and brands attached to my car.
From this I have been able to be more picky and choosey when buying my new tyres.
I now know whats good, whats bad and what is worth avoiding.
Michelin boast being one of the 2 tyre suppliers to the Formula 1 world championship.
Yet it fails to pass its lessons leared from the track to the consumer.

Advantages: Cheap and excellent grip when new Disadvantages: Grip isn't as good when the tyres are older
I bough a new Clio over a year ago and the Micheling Energy tyres that were on it were just about dead, so after a few reccomendations I decided to get some Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 tyres fitted to it.
They were only £60 a tyre fitted (195/50/15) was very happy with the price.
At first summer) the tyres were absolutely fantastic, had bags full of grip and when they did let go you could feel it slowly and control it.
As winter approached late last year the grip of the tyres didn't feel as good as it used to, even on warm days it wasn't the same, it felt like as the tyres were getting older the compound in them was degrading, and they weren't as good.
Up untill that point I would definately have bought them again, but wouldn't now.
When I had the tyres put on the car it had done 42k and when I sold the car with 62k on (11 ...
