Wii Fit

Advantages: great for weightloss, fun for all the family, improves posture, balance and health
Disadvantages: expensive, can only register up to 8 family members

Our Wii Fit was brought as a birthday present for my 9 year old brother, although to be honest it was probably more of a gift to us!! What is a 'Wii Fit'? Before explaining what a Wii Fit is, I will explain the equipment you will need for it. The Wii Fit works on a Nintendo Wii - the Wii is a games console, which uses a handheld remote for interactive play (simulating tennis etc). In addition to the games console you will need a Wii Fit balance board. This can be used with other games such as skiing etc but will initially be purchased with the Wii Fit software. The Wii fit balance board is a rectangular board, which the user stands on, and it links up wirelessly to the Wii and is used to improve health through balance games, muscle and yoga poses and aerobic exercise games. Are Wii Fit?

Advantages: Nice range of excercises and activities, great for entire family
Disadvantages: no set routines, can excersise before warming up, requires personal motivation

fitness routine ever since. The Wii Fit "game" comes with a balance board. It has a battery compartment on the back, but rather than use that, we bought a rechargeable batter pack for a few pounds. This charges via USB, and we hook ours up to the USB port on the back of the Wii to run it if we forget to charge it up when it runs low. The balance board works on the same basic principle as the Wiimote, sensing minute body movements and changes of weight to assess what you are doing. Many of the activities rely on this to assess your effort, while others request you step off the board and carry the Wiimote, such as when you go jogging in place, as bouncing on the board can damage the internal sensors. It offers a wide choice of activities, from yoga to muscle work outs. There are also aerobic activities to help get the heart rate up and burn ...

Review of Wii Fit (Wii)

Family Fitness

Advantages: Fun for the family
Disadvantages: None

The first thing I noticed, when I opened the box, was the great hardware build quality. To me, the balance board has always looked very fragile in promotional pictures. I've seen people waving it around willy nilly so I thought it would just be lightweight plastic tat. It's actually a really sturdy, well made piece of equipment. You connect it to the Wii like a wiimote and the software also installs a special Wii Fit channel on the main menu. So, onto the Wii Fit software. As with Nintendo's other games, your profile is saved under your Mii. It's just like Brain Training with a daily test, complete with a slightly abstract body age which seems completely based on your ability to shift your weight around. During the test your Mii's physique is adjusted to match your BMI. This was hilarious as my little guy was inflated to become a fat ...
