kona firemountain
Advantages: exelent value for money, very strong can take some abuse Disadvantages: the overall bike is quite heavy, and has bad saddle
I bought the 2005 model Fire Mountain in the beginning of last year. I rode it XC for a good 3 months after purchase. The bike performed well, has a good gear ratio (has capability to go extremely fast, and get up the steepest of hills). But the comfort was not great, especial on longer rides. I found myself having to stop not because I was tiered or out of breath, but because I was in so much pain I had no choice. In the summer I rode some slightly ... ...trails the bike seemed to handle it ok. The only part of my bike that didn't was my bars when I stacked it going to fast and bent them.
I've gone back to Xcing now and all the components are still going strong.
componaents: the fork make this a smooth ride for the price but the adjustability is not efective
the disk brake do not need much wearing in and can still lock my weels today no matter how fast im going, and I've still not changed the pads.

My first 'proper' downhill bike
Advantages: Great fun, 'do anything' Disadvantages: Poor customer service
...I regret having bought the Kona with its reasonable weight and specification, it certainly seemed to perform pretty well off-road. My Stinky is now a couple of years old and this is the model which I will review although I can say that the newer model does strike me as being of a much higher spec and better value for money.
So, I bought my Kona and the first thing I did was upgrade it from v-brakes to disk brakes (come as standard now) and the bike ... ...having taken a test ride on two or three of your favourites...
If you would like more detail then the Kona website at www.konaworld.co.uk is fantastic and if you’d like any personal info regarding opinions etc feel free to leave a message in my guest book.
Happy riding… ...

Bombproof hardtail from Canada
Advantages: Robust build and a superb frame Disadvantages: Average forks brakes and cranks. Also not the lightest
...the ride more than makes up for all of that. Kona have managed to make the handling agile and yet stable with good stand over clearance. Add to that good Canadian build quality with components that are built to last and good mud clearance and you cannot go wrong. ...

Aluminium tastic
Advantages: Lightweight, good quality components Disadvantages: A lot of money
Kona are a fantastic Canadian company that was set up in 1988 by Jacob "Jake the Snake" Heilbron, Dan Gerhard and Joe Murray. They specialise mostly in mountain bikes at the high end of the quality spectrum.
I bought my first Kona, a Kona Lava Dome, in February of 2006 however on March the 6th of this year (2007) man and machine met wrought iron fence. Both man and machine were broken only, unlike myself, my trusty steed doesn’t have the ability ... ...I visited my local Kona dealer and a rather nice chap suggested I took my frame in and he would see what Kona would do for me. The following afternoon I received the news that Kona had offered a crash replacement frame with 50% off. Brilliant. Hence - the Kona Caldera.
The Kona Caldera is an all mountain aluminum frame that has been designed primarily with cross country riding in mind. It is a hard tail mountain bike which means that the back wheel ...

Kona Kula
Advantages: Great handling, climbs like a mountain goat Disadvantages: Can be a handfull on rough, fast decents
To date I've owned three Kona Kulas, spanning a perod of nearly ten years. I've ridden 100km marathons on one, ridden the trails of South Wales on one, and commuted on one, so from that you could surmise that I like the bike. Well yes I do, but as technology has moved on is there still a place for the Kona Kula in todays market place?
When it comes to riding fast, smooth singletrack, either up hill or down, the Kula is superb. The bike climbs very, ... ...Leith Hill in Surrey. Real Kona Kula territory. Smooth trails with lots of technical singletrack. Just the sort of place this bike was meant for.
Now I'm living in South Wales, where the trails are a lot rougher. Guss what, I bought a full suspention, the Kulas brother, The King. I still take the Kula out around Afan Argoed now and again, just to remind me what it's like to ride a "real bike", but I have to admit that the rocks have to a degree ...
