A Brick in more ways than one!

Advantages: Great on the road, powerful brakes, strong frame.
Disadvantages: Not ideal off road

...day when i purchased my trek 3700 from my bike shop. I remember instantly noticing that it was way better than my old bike, a concept something which was frankly terrible! I ride my bike about 20 miles every weekend, and has now well exceeded the 100 mile mark. It has got to here with basically no faults atall! It got its first service last weekend, which was pretty impressive i thought as it had never needed it before (due to water getting into ...
...needed replacing-this is due to spraying with a power hose). The brakes are very effective, apart from as the other review mentions they do have a habit of loosening-if you go on any long cycle rides it is well worth having an allan key on you just in case. Also if you enjoy riding on muddy trails do not use this bike! Its wheels get clogged up incredibly easily, thanks to the V brakes. The suspension is fantastically tuned for road-going as it ...

IDEAL FOR LIGHT RECREATION, ROAD USE

Advantages: Good price, Good looking frame, Smooth disc brakes
Disadvantages: Front Suspension Fork is very poor, esp for off road use

TREK 4300 DISC I bought this bike around 4 months ago, in this period it has done 700 miles without so much as breaking down on me, that being said I only use for commuting to work, even though the cycle is classed as a mountain bike, if used off road it would be in need of repair within a couple of hours heavy use<I use a specialized stumpjumper for off road use> the 4300 is a really good bike for someone who is just getting back into cycling/exercising ...

8500 2003 quility...

Advantages: weight, build quility, component spec
Disadvantages: have not found any yet

First none steel frame i have purchased and have not looked back. Its a completely different ride, excellent in all terrain. It is very light, anything that helps me get up those hills is a bonus. Discs are amazing, once worn in they provide constant breaking performance. Definately worth paying the extra money for the disc option. Fox float forks are an excellent accompliment to the bike. No problems have been encountered yet, fingers crossed Used ...

TREK 4500 review

Advantages: Relativly light,great frame,strong wheels
Disadvantages: Judy TT front fork is a joke.

...direct replacement for my trusty Trek 4300,which,due to upgrading to disks, proved too much of a temptation, and was stolen just before Christmas. My 4500 has subsequently recieved little use,but I can say that the front fork is almost immpossible to depress, unless your a desperate dan lookalike. It is a likely candidate for upgrade ASAP. Otherwise, however the components are well put together and the frame is light and very strong.Thank goodness they ...
...the rear. I have already ordered disks to effect a brake upgrade, although strictly speeaking, the Avid single digit V brakes are more than adequate The Deore shifters are very light, and make gear changes a pleasure.I'll also need to change the tyres as they are for off road stuff, and at present,it's the daily commute to work, resulting in excessive tyre noise. ...

Sweet ride

Advantages: Price, style
Disadvantages: For this price you don't get brilliance!

...bikes within my budget, the Trek 820 immediately caught my eye. It looks great (mine is blue/silver but I believe it also comes in red/silver). I was very wary of cheaper bikes that try a little too hard to look better than they are. The Trek 820 looks much like any other Trek, simple but stylish. The 820 is pretty much bottom of the Trek mountain bike range, but that doesn't mean it's crap. Trek are generally recognised as one of the better bike ...
...which is now a rather outdated, heavy material. However, for the casual cyclist this shouldn't be any problem. The 820 is only going to be too heavy if you're carrying it up mountains/over rivers/whatever the pros do! In fact you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between this and an aluminium frame. The ride is much smoother than anything else I've experienced. Front suspension forks really do make a difference, and although the ones provided ...
