Advantages: Only £329 and you get a race proven frame Disadvantages: none
...For people who do not know much about mountain bikes, this bike is far superior to what you could buy in Halfords. You get a race proven frame for your 329 pounds. Groupset on the bike is far better than any other groupset found on a Halfords bike. Even though it is bottom of the range. But Kona give you a frame that is easy to upgrade. That is one of the differences between a good bike company and a run off the mill bike company. I would recommend this bike to anyone, any age as the technology that has gone into their top of the range frames filters down to the lower priced bikes....

Advantages: Sound geometry, Quality components Disadvantages: Just much too heavy for it's own good
...It is not a common sight to see a well respected mountain bike company cross to makeing high quality BMX bikes. But specialized ahve certainly come very close. For a mountain biker or a BMXer a specialised 415 comes very close to being up there with the best of the BMX bikes. But they fell down on one key aspect of the conversion from Mountain bikes to the very different BMX bikes. There managed to change the geometry, the accesories and even the brakes but there is one place that they messed up big time. It is just tooooooo heavy. They are too used to there heavy mountain bikes that in my eyes they have spoiled an otherwise floorless BMX. i eagerly await the 2002 edition as if the weight problem is tackled it will be a great all round bike!!...

Advantages: Price, style Disadvantages: For this price you don't get brilliance!
...I bought this bike in the summer of 2002 for £220.
I was looking for a cheapish ride to get me to and from lectures. I wanted a reasonably good bike, but didn't think I needed (or could afford) anything too fancy. I also wanted a mountain bike, not because I cycle up mountains that much, rather because I think they look cool.
The first thing I noticed as I looked around my local bike shop was that technology had seemingly come a long way in the last few years. It quickly became clear that £200 can buy quite a reasonable bike nowadays (unlike the days when a piece of junk Raleigh Activator would set you back about £250)
Out of the bikes within my budget, the Trek 820 immediately caught my eye. It looks great (mine is blue/silver but I believe it also comes in red/silver). I was very wary of cheaper bikes that try a little too hard...
