My daughter was one on 1st June and I can honestly say that there is not one toy that she does not play with or that we wish she had not have got.

Karys (my daughter) loves to bounce. As soon as her legs were strong enough for her to push on them - she bounced. We bought her a door bouncer which she used daily from 5 months old and loved it.

So when it came to her first birthday I searched around for a suitable trampoline. The bog standard junior trampolines that have the handle on were quite pricey but also impossible for Karys to get on and off on her own as she is not quite walking unaided just yet. Also these type of trampolines usually state they are for 3 years up which was no good at all.

Then I hit the jackpot whilst creating Karys' birthday wish list on the Early Learning Centre website and here my story continues…

PRODUCT

The actual product is called 'My First Trampoline'. It is a little round trampoline suitable for little people.

WHAT AGE IS IT SUITABLE FOR?

This particular trampoline is suitable for ages 1 - 3 years which was perfect for us.

WHAT MAKES IT SO SPECIAL?

This trampoline has many features that make this suitable for a one year old. They are:

• The handle is extra chunky rubber with grips rather than that awful foam stuff that can be bitten off.
• There is a padded surround that goes on top to protect little bodies from the metal frame.
• The legs are smaller than usual so babies can crawl on and off without too much trouble.

WHAT COLOUR DOES IT COME IN?

It is mainly light green and blue with a touch of lilac here and there. I suppose the colours are rather feminine but I honestly do not think this matters. These colours are standard and there is no alternative.

HOW MUCH IS IT?

It is £30 excluding p&p which is £3.95 if you order online.

ASSEMBLY DETAILS

We suggested that the in laws buy this for Karys and my mother in law ordered it online from ELC website. When it arrived (she had it delivered to us) it was in a box completely dismantled.

When we opened the box we checked that all the pieces were there then set about putting it together. We had to first slip the 4 frame pieces (which were also the legs) into the sides of the mat (the bouncy bit). We were provided with everything we needed. Once the back two were held together by the nuts and bolts we had to attach the frame which slid between the two front legs part of the frame.

Once this was done and the bolts were all tightened we put the padded surround on and looped the elastic bits over the legs to hold it in place. This whole assembly job would have been a lot faster had we not had Karys trying to climb on it every two minutes and a 13 week old kitten who wanted to 'help'.

HOW HEAVY IS IT?

It is very very light. I can pick it up and carry it about with one hand and it is certainly no problem.

INDOORS OR OUTDOORS?

This trampoline is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and due to it being so lightweight it is easy to move it indoors and outdoors.

OTHER DETAILS

It says the trampoline can be wiped with a damp cloth but must not be dry cleaned or ironed. It also states that the padded surround is not waterproof. It is easy to wipe down so that is not a problem.

On the handle it says maximum weight is 20kg and only one child at a time must use the trampoline. There are no somersaults or stunts to be performed on it either - so I must warn Karys to stop doing those tomorrow.

IS IT ANY GOOD?

The answer is Yes. Yes I'd recommend it definitely! Karys can crawl on and off it and she has not had one accident falling off it or any other accident that could occur on a trampoline. This is reassuring for a number of reasons 1) I can't always be in the room and 2) she isn't walking yet so crawling on and off things can be rather difficult.

It is a very sturdy well made toy and just seeing Karys' face when she is bouncing away makes it well worth the money.

The trampoline provides exercise and helps with balance and co-ordination which is very important when you're learning to walk.

I would also recommend joining ELC's Birthday club as I received a code for 20% off a couple of weeks before Karys' birthday. I could use the code when ordering online or I could print off the voucher and take it in store.

That would make the trampoline £24 excluding p&p which is a bargain!
