The NSD powerball
Background
The original NSD powerball is believed to have been designed for weightless workouts in space by NASA, however I can’t verify if this is true.
Although I do know it works and it works well, it is designed for exercise, therapy and sport and can be quit addictive. The powerball strengthens fingers and hands through the grip of the ball the wrist, forearm biceps and triceps. The finely tuned gyroscope within the ball creates force up to 40 kg but can be used for repetition or therapy at moderate speeds. Therefore this ball is unique in its durability, and effects, its is also proposed and I can see why that people in certain careers such as sports like tennis badminton cricket etc plus musicians using guitars and drums would find the benefits astounding.
Where to buy and prices
The powerball is a relatively new craze and hasn’t lifted off as yet but I’m sure it will, prices range from 15 pounds to 70 pounds relating to which ball you get.
Powerballs 250hz 2590hz pro Neon Neon pro Techno Signature Metal (silver) 350hz Metal black 350hz
The basic model is the 250hz powerball, which is the same design as the rest but without the digital Speedo; the techno is the same design but has different colors in one ball.
The also has a unique way of scrolling the spin result using the LED’s instead of the Speedo, the metal balls are the professional balls which achieve greater pressure and speeds.
The signature ball costs 25.99 pounds and is basically a pro with higher standard plastics and innards with smoky plastic and brighter LED’s plus this ball is 350hz like the two metal higher end range balls.
The price range from 15.99 for the base model 17.99 pounds for the pro 26 for the techno and signature series and 70 pounds for the metal versions.
I would suggest sports shops would sell these as they are more fitness tools then toys but I haven’t seen them, I bought mine through play.com but you can find out any information including world records and leagues by country at www.powerbal.com.
Using your ball
In the package you basically just get your power ball and two strings plus a detailed instruction leaflet,
It takes some time to crack the starting of the ball but if you follow the instructions you will soon pick it up.
The ball has a gyroscope inside which you have to start spinning with the string to achieve some momentum to get the thing spinning, you cant do it with out the strings. You pull the string after wrapping it round the gyroscope carefully and pull like you would start a lawnmower for example.
Then you have to spin your wrists in 3d motions, the easiest way to explain is like stirring soup and washing windows at the same time, spiny horizontally and vertically.
The first few attempts would 99% of the time result in failure but with practice you can get it every time, when the gyroscope is spinning you start moving your wrist as suggested.
You can tell how its going by the sound a clanging noise means you are missing the rhythm but a scraping noise means you have got it.
As the ball speeds up and your effort increases you turning circles decrease and your effort increases as does the noise, the LED’s brightens the weight of the ball and the pain in your arms, you have to be careful as this does make your arms ache if over used as would weightlifting.
The Speedo
You have a choice of functions on the Speedo.
1 highest speed 2 how many repetitions in 30 seconds, 60 seconds or 90 seconds 3 number of spins in any period.
The highest speed is how fast you can get it to go (please bare in mind the balls may differ) I have achieved 18654 on my friends but only 10435 on my own.
This is the competitive part to see who can get the highest, if you want use to get the effects of weight lifting the 30 to 90 second stints repetitions are probably best although you can see who is best and compete at this to.
For toning and general use the constant spin calculator 3 is best it counts how many spins and saves it as it does the highest speed until you can achieve a greater rate.
Conclusion
The powerful is fantastic, addictive and lots of fun plus its is good for you although I would read the notes on how to take care of your ball and how to use it. For under 20 pounds you can get a lot of benefits and fun from this and I would recommend it to anyone and more to anyone with artheritis, RSI or anything that needs none impact therapy.
