Freebird One - A Luxury Adventure

This summer (2007), my family and I holidayed on the island of Tenerife. We wanted to experience a bit more than the hotel facilities, so after attending the Rep's welcome meeting, I decided to book the Freebird One Experience.
Freebird Sailing was founded in 1994, specialising in cruises aboard a luxury 30-seater catamaran. They proud themselves with the title of being "the largest catamaran service in the Canary Islands" and whilst in Tenerife I witnessed no other catamaran passing us on the sea. There is also a Freebird 2 and a 3. The Freebird Two is about 25 metres long and has a passenger capacity of 126. This catamaran has six large netting areas at the front.

I have been going to Tenerife for the last 5 years and every year it is not complete without a trip on the catamaran. Going out to see and seeing all the lovely whales and dolphins in their natural habitat is amazing. They look so free and happy that it makes the whole trip a pleasure.Put that together with the free food, drink and the beating hot sunshine this is definately a trip to take.
They also have sun cream experts on board who do actually know what they are talking about. My partner had a really bad heat rash which was turning into water blisters all over his chest. This lady gave him some cream that would help this go down, protect him from the sun and also still let him get tanned. The products were definately worth the amount we paid for them.

The salt spray stung my face. The hulls vibrated and groaned. This was speed. Six inches above the water, six feet out from the side of the boat, I had the most fantastic view as the hulls of my Hobie 16 sliced through the clear blue sea leaving perfectly cut water closing in behind them. This is catamaran sailing. Exhilarating, fast and furious. Another small wave, adjust the tiller round up slightly, lean back and up we go, yes clear airtime again and crash we come back down, the lee hull submerges but pulls out in a flash and we carry on as before. As we come into the surf close to shore we ride down the wave front, pull hard on the tiller and flare off the top. Pure adrenaline.
I have just come back from my hols. Two weeks in the sun and sailing a free Hobie 16 was daily entertainment.
