Review of Silva Ranger 3 Compass by
sit2020
Advantages: Robust and reliable
Disadvantages: not cheap
...Why choose a Silva compass?
The company that manufactures these compasses arguably Europe’s most reliable compasses, have been making them for 70 years, they are sold to armed forces around the world
Silva compasses are liquid filled and have a sapphire bearing, this results in a compass whose needle rotates smoothly and never has the needle wobble that some compasses suffer from.
Who are Silva?
They are a Swedish company who have subsidiary ... ...I use The Silva Ranger 3 compass, which I would place as right in the middle of the range of compasses that Silva make.
Why do I use this model?
It is called a base plate compass, this means it is a compass that is housed in liquid, and this compass is set into a rectangular plate that has two measuring scales down the side. The scales are 1:50.000 and 1:25.000 (these scales coincide with the same two most common scales used in orienteering or ...

Portable, accurate and easy to use
Review of Garmin Foretrex 201 by
nikaso
Advantages: Lightweight, accurate, easy to use
Disadvantages: Not really any
This is an extremely useful piece of kit, I originally purchased it to use for Geocaching but now use it as a pedometer as well, its great for parking up in the countryside and setting your car as a waypoint, you can then wander around knowing you'll always be able to get back to the car.
The menu system is pretty intuitive and doesn't take long to pick up at all, it tracks maximum speed, average speed, time moving, distance travelled, distance ...

I Love My Geko
Review of Garmin Geko 201 by
tac20
Advantages: Small, Works Perfectly
Disadvantages: Doesn't have the best spec on the market (if you want that)
...me and bought me a Garmin Geko 201 GPS and it's beautiful. It caters exactly to my needs and is a nice handy size.
But I'll start at the beginning so you know exactly what this model does…
Geocaching
For those who don't know about geocaching, you might want to pay a quick visit to www.geocaching.com Geocaching is the exciting, and rather geeky, hobby of using a GPS (or a map if you so wish) to go for nice pleasant walks and search for hidden ... ...offer.
I use the Garmin Geko 201 for walking and geocaching and it works perfectly for these activities. You can store quite a few waypoints, but you are limited in the length of labels you put on them. The GPS is really light and is supposedly waterproof, but I won't test it! The batteries are AAAs and seem to last ages - so long as you remember to turn the GPS off after you've finished using it! Price wise I can't help so much with as I received ...

Rugged excellent outdoor GPS unit Garmin Geko 201
Review of Garmin Geko 201 by
GriffMedia
Advantages: rugged, waterproof, reliable, accurate
Disadvantages: none
...hobby called Geocaching and our Garmin Geko 201 is invaluable to us. Our hobby involves downloading co-ordinates to the PC, which we can then transfer to the Garmin via a serial cable. You can of course input them manually.
My advice is to read the manual carefully as it may not be the most obvious piece of kit to use. (isn't that what manuals are for? ) Once you get used to it it is a very simple unit to use.
It is rugged, waterproof and has a ... ...given (plus clues sometimes) and invariably the garmin gets us close.
All in all this is an impressive piece of kit. There are others on the market with more whistles and bells but if you want a good GPS unit for not a lot of money. This is it ...

Review of Eurohike Multi-Function Pedometer by
spottydog2
Advantages: Calculates calories burned off and miles walked, radio.
Disadvantages: Sometimes seems pointless to use.
...it more seriously. The Eurohike Multi Function pedometers are about £15. Some have different functions for varying prices. Not all have a radio. Some have a panic alarm function. Either way they are inexpensive and you can chose one to fit your own requirements, if you feel you should need one. ...
