Well. You can either purchase these shin pads in junior or mens size. For those who leave comments and do not know what there talking about, yes their is a difference and thats why I have noted it. Ahh now thats out of the way. Well I simply needed a new pair of shinpads. My old ones were just absolutely terrible. A lot of dirty tackles they have had. By the way for all you junior football players reading this, I know shin pads arent the most stylish or cool football accsesorie, they are important. Please wear them. The ammount of A&E visits I have had to make with team mates who have forgot to put on their shin pads is unbearable. Anyway onto the shinpads I think that you can get them in a variety of colours. I havent seen different colours in the shops but Im nearly sure that I have seen other players with different coloured shin pads to mine which were the same model and make. Anyway what the hell does colour matter for. Why am I even going on about colour. Anyway for the player who likes to look his best yes they are attractive. Mine are blue and silver with a nike logo in the middle of the primary shin pad.
One feature which hasnt always being on shin pads are ankle support. These are simply thick cotton and nylon made into a bandage type material which straps along your foot and protrudes from the main shin pad. The ankle support on these shin pads is excellent. Please use it. It also helps to keep the shin pads in place. No velcro on these either. Simply wrap then around the ball of your feet and bobs your uncle.
The primary shin protection is initially made from hardened PVC and is then coated with plastic mainly for looks however it does add additional protection. The reason why PVC has been used is due to the fact that PVC is extremely light weight so it shouldnt affect your genral speed and agility when either in a game or training. Another reason why it has been used is due to the fast that it is shatter proof. Safetys always an issue eh. It is lastly extremely hardy and can recieve multiple impacts without creating what we call air pockets. This is a section of the shin pad which has a minute air line fracture which weakens the pad and in turn means you are not properly protected if you were to be hit in a similar area again. This is why they always say to replace a motorcycle helmet when involved in an accident. The shin pad then straps through velcro around the top half of your calf. There is also an additional small button which can be used to ensure that even if the velcro goes in the middle of a game then the shin pad still stays in place and can hold its own. The straps are carefully designed and do not dig in to youre legs when playing.
The shinpads should not be placed in a machine machine and should only be hand washed with a damp cotton cloth. The reason being the ankle straps wil lose support and the shin pad itself can be damaged again through the air gap while spinning in the washer.
I must say that these shinpads are the most durable and reliable pads I have had in a long time. Mine have taken numerous knockings and still work perfectly. Comfortable, long lasting and durable, everything you want from a shin pad. I would definetely recomend purchasing them. I got mine from www.nike.com however I have recently seen them in a JJB store.
