I feel like I am always having to clean shoes and boots, be it my own shoes or my partners work boots, even my son's Wellingtons, I swear I never stop. Thankfully Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel is a fantastic sponge on revitalising cleaner for all types of footwear; it will work on all combinations of any fabric and is even suitable for breathable fabrics such as Gore-Tex, SympaTex and eVENT. This means I can clean all our shoes with just the one product, from walking boots to trainers and everything in between. The bonus to it being “sponge on” is that the head of the cleaning bottle has a spongy/scrubby material stuck onto it so you can use this to work away any stubborn dirt.

The great thing with all Nikwax products are that they are easy to use, for the Cleaning Gel simply rinse your footwear in clean water to help loosen and remove any mud and then whilst the fabric is still damp shake the bottle well and apply the liquid gel really generously all over. Give your shoes a good rub down with a brush if they are really dirty and then rinse the cleaning gel and any excess mud off with some clean water.

If you want to go the whole hog and really look after your shoes then no matter what fabric they are made of Nikwax will have a product that you can use to condition and waterproof them, which is best done whilst still damp after cleaning.

The only downside with the cleaning gel is that it may cause colour to run and that you can't seem to buy it in any larger quantities. Also if you get a little too vigorous with your cleaning you may find that the scrubby head falls apart which then makes the bottle really hard to use because it just gauges at your shoes.

Nikwax Cleaning Gel contains less than 5% soap, aliphatic hydrocarbons, polycarboxylates and other Perfumes.

For the Eco conscious amongst us you may also be happy no know that there are no propellant gasses, it’s non toxic, environmentally safe, not tested on animals and contains no fluorocarbons!
