extended it to the worlds most efficient fin! The technological edge is achieved with the patented Natures Wing technology by splitting the blade to generate highly efficient thrust or lift like an airplane wing, while reducing the strain on the muscles of the leg and hips by allowing the water to drain between the dual blades. With the V12, Oceanics design team has worked long and hard to create just the right combination of fin size, shape, and angle. Then added Duoprene - a proprietary combination of natural rubbers and hi-tech polymers to fully maximize this new technology and create the ultimate fin. {tab=Boots Calypso 2RV} The perfect booties in 5mm Neopren
Advantages: Best fins i have ever used Disadvantages: Very plain looking, everyone has them
...People in the diving world will know about the Oceanic split fin craze, for divers that have use the V12fins they will know how good they are and all the other divers that haven't used them want too lol. The thing that makes these fins so good is the split in them; non divers might think how can you move yourself along underwater if you have a big split in your fins. Well the answer is better than you can if you don't have a split in your fins. The OceanicVortexV12fins make moving through the water allot easier than with normal fins because for some reason you use less energy and travel faster too (I have no idea how this works it just does lol, take my word for it) I got my fins from my local dive shop for £80 because I was sick of my old Cressi fins
Looks: The VortexV12's come in one colour, black so they look pretty plain...

Advantages: Very little effort required underwater, flexible Disadvantages: Not cheap, not the best for long surface swims
...My Mares Volo Power fins are among the favourite items of my dive kit. While pricey, they do a very good job, and make finning underwater incredibly easy. One of the few drawbacks is I find they're not as good for surface swims, particularly against current. They are longer than many standard fins, which takes some getting used to, and it's something to be aware of when you're near fragile coral reef. However, they're also ultra-flexible, and I usually find I can get back into the boat while still wearing them.
Initially I found the quick-release catch at the side to be rather cumbersome - the lock-unlock mechanism isn't very easy with gloves on. To be honest, I've now taken to closing and not locking them, and they've never opened up while I'm in the water.
When these fins first appeared on the market they were pretty expensive...

Advantages: Good power generation Disadvantages: Ease of using release clips
...I have always maintained that you have to go a long way to beat a day spent dressed in rubber, breathing through specialist apparatus in a wet, dark environment. A few weeks back my enjoyment was curtailed somewhat when one of my fins cracked open with a large split in them, now it could be argued that a split fin design is the latest fashion however that only really works when the both fins are a split design and the split in your fin does not get bigger with every kick of your leg. One aborted dive later I was thus thrust onto the market for a new set of fins as my back up pair are fine for the odd dive but not for an extended period of diving.
There have been huge developments in fin designs over the past couple of years, each new design making claims of better power, more efficient diving and better manoeuvrability in the water...
