The new Aether 60 doesn't sacrifice fit or comfort! Just shy of 4 lbs,. it hauls nearly 4,000 cu. in. and features a custom-moldable hipbelt!
* Top-loading pack shaves weight with its lightweight yet tough 210-denier high-tenacity double-ripstop nylon construction
* The new AirScape Suspension uses peripheral rods, a nubbed foam back panel and an internal framesheet
* Running down the sidewall, the peripheral rods anchor to load lifters and hipbelt, actively transferring load and resisting sag
* Providing superior load support is the IsoForm CM (Custom Moldable) hipbelt, 3D dual-density foam contoured and anatomically shaped
* Check your local REI store for certified custom molding
* ErgoPull hipbelt closure provides extra leverage in cinching, drawing tension along top and bottom--not through the center--relieving hipbone pressure
* IsoForm dual-density foam harness with Spacer Mesh promotes airflow and wicks away moisture during warm weather and intense activity
* Top pocket can be removed and converted into a lumbar pack; IsoForm hipbelt on pack can be removed and slid onto lumbar pack for comfortable carrying
* Dual-entry side mesh pockets keep essentials easily accessible, and a built-in front mesh pocket accepts Osprey Excessories for added capacity
* Front compression wings let you securely compress the contents of the pack, whether full or nearly empty, without sag or load distortion
* Ski straps, ice axe tool loops, sleeping pad straps, extendable lid and skirt accommodate a variety of alpine gear
* Hydration-compatible design features reservoir pocket and dual drink tube exit port for on-the-go hydration (reservoir sold separately)
* High-density polyurethane (HDPE) framesheet and a single aluminum stay protect your back from bulky or pointy items and support heavy loads
* Specifications for torso/ waist and hips/ base volume / weight are as follows: Medium - 18 - 20.5 in. / 30 - 34 in. / 3,700 cu.in. / 60 liters / 3 lbs. 15 oz.
* Large - 20 - 22.5 in. / 33 - 37 in. / 3,800 cu.in. / 63 liters / 4 lbs. 2 oz.

Advantages: Well built, Good load transfer, Non sweat back system Disadvantages: Heavy, looks slightly odd, Occipital cavity doesnt work, front pocket opening too small.
...The Cyclops III is the update to the legendary if not popular cyclops series of rucksacks. Whereas most manufacturers offer packs with an ajustable back system the Cyclops series take a differant approach. Instead of buying the pack and ajusting it you by it in back sizes - size 1 and 2 for the ladies and sizes 2, 3 and 4 for the lads.
Of course berghaus arent unique in using this method of sizing, a number of firms use it but the vast majorty of packs are adjustable/
So whats on the pack? Well there have been some tweeks since i bought mine in 2002.
Starting from the bottom up theres a hib belt with what berghaus describe as "grabber" fins, what this means that the hip belts uses a mix of firm and softer foams on a precurved plate so it wraps around the wearers hips. In anycase the cyclops has a reputations as being a good...

Advantages: Easy to clean an maintain Disadvantages: Lacks extra storage
...I wanted to try Hydrapak so I gambled on the AS Trail. I am very glad that I did. The bladder doesn't have a screw-on lid like most other systems but rather a roll-top with velcro. I know that sounds bad and I was skeptical, but it really does hold water well. I filled it up and squeezed and couldn't get it to leak. Additionally, the bladder is easily pulled inside-out so that makes drying and cleaning a breeze. Oh yeah, the hose disconnects from the bladder so you can take the bladder out without snaking the hose through the system - the connection is also excellent, no leaks.
The construction of the pack is perfect. Nothing is coming apart, no loose threads. The straps stay tight. I did find that the chest strap (I didn't even try to use to waist strap) kept pulling my jersey up exposing my lower back to mud - a problem made worse...
