I had thought that it was next to impossible to find a coat that was provided warmth in the winter but could also be used as a raincoat at other times of the year without causing you to overheat. I also didn't think that I'd find an outdoor jacket that I could wear in the city without standing out. Berghaus coats with this designation have a second zip included - this is designed to allow the user to attach a Berghaus IA fleece to the inside to produce a much warmer product for colder weather. Everything that's claimed is true.. I've been out in tropical style cloudbursts wearing my Barbour and hood. Everything below the jacket hem was soaked ie the lower calves of my legs and feet. But my Barbour did it's duty and kept the rest of me bone dry! It is also remarkably wind proof. ...as the tube describes, as emergency rainwear- never get caught out in the rain again. I somehow can't see me wearing this or carrying it around with me "just in case" but at the time I needed it, it was excellent. The Viking ride was indeed a very wet one but I managed to come out of it relatively unscathed. Also, by putting my bag on my knee, under the poncho, things like my camera and phone were not damaged. ...fact, two days of me dragging it in and out of my bag has rendered it almost useless. However, it was £2 well spent, and for anyone faced with desperate times, I would advise one of these.
