...You don't see the Vulcan around much these days but I had one and it was a rock steady backpack. Manufactured by Berghaus for the serious mountaineer but affectionately used by the military and forces due to its high volume and stability when loaded to the maximum. Features 100litre volume with two detatchable side pockets (very useful for expeditioners who have trekked to a base camp and then require a day pack for day walks etc) - the pack comes with straps to turn the side pockets into a small backpack. A feature copied by many other manufacturers. Internal frame that can be moulded to your back. High density foam in the right areas to prevent chaffing and rubbing (eg hips, shoulders and lower back - good lumbar support) My one had a divider between the main sac - not sure that this was common but very useful to keep dirty... ...Polar RS100 Heart Rate Monitor This is the second heart rate monitor that i have bought, the first one was years ago and on the rare occaision it did pick up your pulse it went completely wrong if you were near anything electrical or any other heart rate monitors. Bearing this in mind i was a liitle wary of getting another but i have currently started training to complete a half marathon and depending on how well it goes i may enter a full marathon so i thought it was high time i got myself kitted out. I have to say, times have definately changed, this monitor just everything you could ever ask (except for the running)! The Polar RS100 heart rate monitor has its own code to avoid unwanted interference meaning you can be in a room with ten other monitors and yours is the only pulse it picks up It features an easy press lap... Advantages: kevlar reinforced belt, reflective sidewalls, design, on or off road suitable
Disadvantages: price is quite high but quality, safety and peace in mind costs

...ride with them - it was incredibly smooth and fast  once I lived in North West London and had to go through Notting hill festival. There were hundreds of broken bottles and other debris on the street. Believe me - went through whole Harrow Road starting from Paddington Station to Chamberlayne Road without any puncture. I could hear only my tyres crashing glasses bottles and so on. Whole way long like that - it was about one kilometre and half. Next day had to spend 30 minutes on removing all glass pieces from tyres. Inner tubes were untouched. Nothing went through anti puncture protection belt.
