Advantages: Light, Strong , reliable, well designed, anti shock Disadvantages: Not cheap
...very firmly in place. It extends in two places so is long enough for any task unlike some cheaper poles
Light wieght; each pole wieghts about 330g approx cheaper poles can be much heavier
antishock system; a walkign pole can take about 20% of the load off your knees this system adds a springing shock absorbtion system that is great as it prevent jarring to wrist on rocky descents, traveling on hard ground and when using the poles like I do when comming down off a style with a pack on
Titanium tip; These hardly wear after 10 years of using my old pole including road walks etc the tip is not worn at all! Also on leki poles the very bottom is flexibale and after thinking I have destroyed my pole after getting it trapped in a rock the very tip slowly reforms back straight!
Good top strap with release mechanism , most people dont realise how...

Advantages: Reduces impacting of knee joints Disadvantages: No free hands
...legs especially on downhill parts. My arms are now stronger and I am now feeling as fit as I did 10 years ago thanks to the full 5 day body work out.
I did miss the little rubber tips on road sections - but have since gone out and bought them - the poles are fine on road surfaces that said, they\'re just a bit noisy and I think the rubber tips will reduce the impact even more than the in-built anti-shock system presently does.
I would say it took me 2-3 hours to get used to using the poles - it\'s a bit like swimming, for a while you struggle and don\'t get very far and feel like giving up but then suddenly it all clicks into place and you are literally motoring along - the feeling on flat and uphill terrain is like being pushed along by a strong wind or an invisible hand ! Going downhill the poles don\'t speed you up but instead...

Advantages: increase stamina, stability, safety while walking on any terrain Disadvantages: you might not want to use them round sainsbury's
...that is usually absorbed by the leg muscles joints and ligaments is redistributed to the pole. This has been calculated as being approximately 4.4 % each step which doesn’t sound like a lot until you think of that over a mile hike or an 8 mile trek. (It’s reckoned to be around 250 tons saved on the 8 mile hike)
Because these poles have shock absorbers the redistributed force isn’t transferred to the wrists, elbows or shoulders unlike an ordinary walking stick. Other benefits include the increased stability; instead of balancing on 2 legs its more like you have 4 which is great particularly on uneven terrain. You are less likely to fall: if you stumble you are more able to balance with the poles and quicker to recover from a misplaced foot. It’s also much better when the grounds wet as these poles simply do not slip. They improve your posture as you...

One of my favourite things about going on holiday is the fact I get extra time to read. In the evening when there is no internet to distract me, only 5 terrestrial channels and a baby in bed the best thing to do is t curl up on the sofa and read.... more
