Advantages: Good insulation, plenty of pocket space Disadvantages: Takes time to dry out if wet through. Hood is flimsy.

I had thought that it was next to impossible to find a coat that was provided warmth in the winter but could also be used as a raincoat at other times of the year without causing you to overheat. I also didn't think that I'd find an outdoor jacket that I could wear in the city without standing out. However, a combination of fleece insulation, zip vents and a sensible colour make this jacket suitable for a variety of situations . The price was also much lower than I expected.
Firstly, there is plenty of pocket space: one inside pockets, two large sidepockets, and pocket on each sleeve. The sidepockets are even large enough to fit small books or maps. There is also fleece insulation on the inside that make the jacket ideal for winter use. It's just a shame that it's not detachable, but the vent zips in the armpit area help to avoid overheating. The jacket is washable but will take longer to dry due to the fleece material. It is however, highly suitable for cold weather use and has handy cords to tighten the sleeves and an adjustable drawcord around the hem that help to keep the heat in. Nevertheless the fleece insulation mean that I wouldn't recommend it for strenuous activities such as running. It also lacks some of the refinements of a ski jacket such as a waist drawstring or a hook to secure your gloves.
The only weak link with this jacket is the hood, mainly because it is very difficult to tighten with the drawcords provided. If unsecured, a brief gust of wind is usually enough to blow the hood off. In my view it would be far more sensible to have a more sturdy (perhaps insulated) detachable hood. There is also only one colour available in the shops and websites that I've checked so if you don't like grey this is not the jacket for you!
This jacket is neither a raincoat or a ski jacket but it's a good compromise between the two. It may not be ideal for the Alpine slopes, but it's perfect for walking in the Scottish Highlands in February or dodging April showers. It can even be employed during the unpredictable British summer. A comfortable and practical jacket that I would certainly recommend.
