I'm mildly asthmatic but hate use my inhalers. My GP wouldn't approve, but there you go, I'm not fond of using them. But I do find breathlessness limits my training ability and although I try to train 4 times a week, sometimes my breathing limits my aerobic capacity.

I got one of these on the advice of a training buddy, also mildly asthmatic. Although sceptical - I've tried many things that are supposed to be helpful for asthma which have been disappointing - I thought I'd give it a go.

It's kind of weird breathing in and out of a plastic device but once you get used to that (and it didn't take me long), it's a very easy piece of kit to use. And for me, it works! Very well. I've been using it for a month and I certainly feel the difference when I'm doing cardio. I don't feel as short of breath and I don't have to stop as often. Perhaps it works too well, as now I can't find a reason for not running (which I hate!!!). Previously, my breathing limited my abiltiy to run. Now I can't use that excuse, so I'll have to find some other excuse to use - but that's a small price to pay I feel.

My peak flow rate has improved dramatically too. Much to my GP's surprise, as it had always hovered around the 550 mark, no matter what. My last peak flow was 650. Is this down to Powerbreathe? Who knows, but I am certainly go to keep on using it.

It does get a bit slobbery from 30 breathes twice a day, but hey, wouldn't you! And it's simple to rinse out and I give mine a regular soaking in baby's bottle sterilising solution. I wouldn't advocate sharing though.

Please note: I'm not advocating that anyone stop using their inhaler. I do use mine. I'm just always looking for things that will allow me to use mine less.

Anything you can do to reduce the need for medical intervention (whether its pills in my case, or inhalers in yours) has to be a good thing as long as there is no negaive effect. Nicely reviewed. 8^)
