Before going to the London International Dive Show, I knew I wanted this torch. I had read the reviews and even seen it in action at Stoney Cove dive centre. This was a well built, well priced rechargeable torch with all the trimmings. The Shockwave is bundled with a host of accessories. Four type D batteries are given for backup power, plus the rechargable unit with mains charger, a spare bulb, lanyard, the torch itself, instructions and good contact/warranty booklet, all neatly housed in a custom made, foam padded case that looks as if it could stand all diving rigours. The torch is gun style, with a long handle with grooves for the fingers. Though heavy above surface, it has a good weight in the water and is very slightly negatively bouyant, meaning it stays to hand and doesn't fly up while on the move. The spot of the torch is very bright and keeps good form, and the aura and outer ring as the light spreads out is constant and also of a good brightness. Burn time is about 70 mins after a four hour charge with the rechargable battery, better with the disposable ones. The torch itself can only be used below the water, as the HALOGEN bulb burns too hot above the surface. An included fuse, however, makes sure no meltig or damage occurs, and it is easily replacable. There is also a well designed safety catch to stop the torch coming on while in its case/dive bag, positioned over the easily maliable switch. My only real gripe, at it is a minor thing, is the need to disassemble the unit to get to the rechargable battery plug, breaking the o-ring seals. However, it does get you into the good habit of greasing all the seals every now and again
