Push Seat Post 400mm Specifications: R-Type (lay back) seat post Alloy construction to prevent rust 400mm long Suitable for ATB, Hybrid, Leisure or Road cycling
Advantages: Great, durable design, very adjustable, simple to fit, many colours. Disadvantages: it further reduces the lowest seat height if you ride DH
...A great quality, durable mudguard.
The mudguard is really simple and easy to fit, just attaching to the seatpost (it comes with different sized blocks, so that you can fit it to any sized seatpost). Then there is a bracket in the middle, then the guard its self, making it a simple, durable design.
You can either buy a long, or short bracket (the bit that covers the distance between your seatpost and the rear wheel) on my GT Avalanche, the long one is perfect.
You can obviously change the height of the mud-guard, and the tilt of it. And when adjusted, it stays firmly in place, with a little movement to soak up the vibrations of riding.
During use, it blocks 90% of all the mud you may encounter, and, should you take a tumble, the manufacturer claims that it is 'indestructible or your money back'.
It is really easy to clean...

Advantages: sturdy and solid, great looking, good to ride and very useful Disadvantages: doesn't quite fold up as small as a Brompton
...the Brompton on the underground in rush hour with no real problems. The P8 folds well, but its it not nearly as compact, or as stable as the Brompton in its folded form, The P8 is strongly reliant on the seatpost to maintain one of its 3 points of ground contact, and I have found this to be a tiny bit unstable when free standing on a train. The Brompton was a dream to throw into a space in the luggage rack, or between seats, with the P8, its usually best if you can get to the luggage space first, other peoples luggage fits better round it. It also doesn't slide under the baggage holder rack as smoothly, which is a pain if people are pushing behind you to get on.
However, the P8 can take a knock, sometimes, for whatever reason people walk in the cycle path, and you might be tempted to take the bike onto the road down the kerb, on the Brompton...

Advantages: Cheaper than the market leader Disadvantages: Doesn't fold so well
...be 'let down'!
One item I really do commend Dahon for and curse Brompton for not having thought of it first, is the built-in pump concealed in the seatpost. This is not just some clever way of secreting a conventional pump about the bike's person, but the whole seatpost IS the pump of the stirrup variety, allowing the base to be anchored by one of your feet whilst you pump admirable volumes of air by pushing the saddle up and down. Full marks chaps - the Brompton's is next to useless!
The sturdy curved nature (hence the name) of the main frame, with its high quality powder-coat paint does give me reason to make one criticism though. To attain a high degree of rigidity, the Dahon has huge dollops of visible running welds.
Now alumin(i)um does not weld as neatly as steel, and the Dahon does nothing to disabuse me of this observation...
