Advantages: Power, media streaming, iPod connection, auto-calibration Disadvantages: Slow using remote to navigate GUI, VERY basic GUI
I was deciding between this and the sister LX71, after spending £1800 on speakers I didn't want to let the system down. The list of credits on this A/V amp was amazing; THX Ultra 2 Plus certification, auto-calibration, dlna audio/video streaming playback and 190W/channel from B&O ICEpower amps to mention but a few. After completing the connections the basic setup was 2 button clicks, with so much packed in harnessing full control of the features seems an ongoing process. The calibration seems accurate and produces a balanced and effective sound stage considering the awkward position of my equipment. The power is staggering and could inconvenience the neighbours in other flats easily. I have large speakers on the front to replicate the bass in music and the amp drives these well. Advantages: well-built, good enough picture and sound quality, easy to use Disadvantages: Ethernet on VISTA only (not on XP), rather expensive for what it is
The picture quality is no better or worse than on other DVD recorders I own from Sony and Panasonic. But compared to these the Pioneer is sturdier. Very well built.
Even so, anyone interested in LX61D for its Ethernet facility should note that this ONLY works with Windows VISTA. You can't connect LX61D via Ethernet to a PC running Windows XP (any flavour). XP users must connect via USB. Your router will see LX61D okay. But XP can't use the connection. Page 125 of the manual makes this clear:
'Use a PC with a Windows Vista operating system. This operation will not work properly on PCs with other operating systems.'
But Pioneer doesn't allude to this on its web site. Sneaky, huh?
So, unless you're running VISTA, forget about Ethernet and think 'USB ONLY'. Then go buy the longest USB cable that will work. Actually this ...
I'll begin this film review by confessing two things: 1. I've never really been a fan of Eddie Murphy; and 2. At the time of writing this, I've never seen any of the Beverley Hills Cop films. If any of these things had been different prior to watching, I may have been disappointed with Metro like a majority of the other film critics. My third, and perhaps most surprising, confession, however, is that I actually enjoyed this film.
It's a formulaic, but effective, buddy-cop comedy-action film. The action set pieces are well done and the central actors appear very confident in their character roles; Murphy, in particular, appears completely at east in front of the camera and is a joy to watch.
Plot wise, Metro is hardly Shakespearian, but no one ever expects that from an action movie anyway. Murphy is Roper, a hostage negotiator ...
