Advantages: Lightweight and fast, should be hard wearing... Disadvantages: Expensive, but worth it !
...first ride on my new Continental Grand Prix 4000 tyres, and thought I'd let you know about them. I know it's only a first use test, but will update this review when I've had them for a while. Also, I've assumed that if you're reading this, you have some interest and/or knowledge of bicycles. I hope that's OK...
Continental have over 100 years experience in the development and production of road and mountain bike tyres, at the Continental Two-Wheel ... ...decision between these and the Continental Attack/Force combination, but these won - primarily on price - but also I don't think I really need the super-high performance of those all-out race tyres, at the cost of a reduced puncture protection...
The GP4000 has a patented "Vectran" anti-puncture layer to prevent punctures - certainly none this morning ! It supposedly has more cut resistance than aramid, and is five times as strong as steel ! Vectran ...

Advantages: Hard wearing, gatorskin versions are almost puncture proof! Disadvantages: Not a lot!
I've used the conti gatorskin version of this tyre (known as 4season) since it was launched. I've just had to buy a new pair - so the wear rate is remarkably low, and I still can ride the current pair, it is just by the end of the winter I know I will need new ones.
I only use them for winter training, but as I ride for a racing club, this does mean I clock up a fair few miles over the course of a winter.
Conti are one of the few manufacturers ... ...hear you ask!
Well, this means they stick to the road more in wet conditions. Thus, if you are training in winter or commuting to work, this attribute is vital.
I have not (so far) had a puncture with them, which says a lot. I do run them with latex inner tubes which obviously helps, but the combination is fantastic. The light weight of the tubes, helps keep the tyres feeling quick, but more importantly the time spent riding rather than stood by ...
