Advantages: Stunning views, well trained horses, friendly hosts, amazing value for money! Disadvantages: Very hot in summer! Take lots of suntan lotion!
I've been to Desert Riders Spain 4 times now and the place is absolutely fantastic. I love it! It's my special little getaway, my best find on the internet ever, and the place I go to relax, forget about work, soak up the sun and gallop thru the desert with the wind in my hair. I wish i could live there actually! They are very reasonable on their prices compared to other companies. There are quite a few "adventure trekking" places springing up around ... ...bit, and i've been trekking with quite a few. I can honestly say none of them offer you the freedom, value for money and great scenery as these people. That brings me onto the scenery....well, it's breathtaking. the first time I went there, it was in august and very hot!! I got out the car and stood in front of the villa, and just looked around me and it took my breath away. For as far as the eye can see in every direction it's uninterrupted views ...

Advantages: Great horses and people, lovely views, close to airport and village. Disadvantages: Very hot in August, definitely need a hire car.
...internet one day for a Horse Riding holiday in Spain. I found a couple, but none that really interested me. Then I went on ebay and just typed in "Horse Riding Spain". (I didnt want to spend ages on there!!!). There was a listing on there that interested me. The listing said they do riding in the mountains and desert. I didnt know Spain had a desert!
I had rode before in the costa del sol but although where I rode was very nice, I was only allowed ... ...but could not ride a horse that was too strong or excitable. The first thing I did was too study their advert and I saw they had reviews from past riders. This gave me more confidence about them. I also noticed that one of the reviews seemed to be done by a friend I hadnt seen in ages! I got in touch with her and she said it was her who had done one of the reviews as she had been there earlier on in the year and that I just had to go! She also said ...

Advantages: Beautiful peaceful friendly people and great horse riding Disadvantages: A short break isn't long enough and you have to hire a car
We found the site on the internet www.desertridersspain.com and booked up for a short break - Both myself and my daughter ride but my wife preferred the peace and quite and was happy to read and relax in the sun.
The closest airport is Almeria but it would be feasible to fly in to Murcia or Alicante and drive down. If you can fly into Almeria it's an easy journey and only half an hour's drive. We used easy Jet but there are other airlines that fly ... ...There are lots to choose from and it's easy, the car hire people all speak better English than my Spanish - The car hire offices are all in the arrivals area.
When you get to the house its in the middle of nowhere but only 10 minutes from the local Tabernas village - Carole and Robs place is a combined yard and home - The bedrooms are really nice with AC for when it gets hot - There are special screens over the windows so you don't have to worry ...

Advantages: So different from the usual riding holiday Disadvantages: Need a car to get there - or a horse - or a mule!
Little did I realise what a chance search for 'Riding' and 'Spain' would bring up on eBay. I wasn't disappointed! A love of horses, a wish to get away, get some sun, see Spain and its culture and be with great likeminded company would seem a tall order but Villa Roxmar fulfilled all my wishes and more. Within a day I would be away from it all, riding in the footsteps of Clint Eastwood, and living and breathing Spanish horses!
Whether taking a relaxing ... ...just spending time around the yard, Villa Roxmar has it all! Within walking distance of the wonderfully Spanish and quaint Tabernas,- great for extremely cheap and delicious 'tapas' lunches - and in the desert to provide great riding, Villa Roxmar is ideally positioned. A warm welcome for Rob and Carol await along with beautifully clean and high quality accommodation. A range of horses and the totally loveable mule 'Mula' (you will want to take him ...

Advantages: Beautiful surroundings, great people, lovely horses, relaxed atmosphere, great weather Disadvantages: having to come home!!
...good holiday. The horse riding was spectacular - they obviously care a lot about their horses and this was shown in the way the horses responded to them. We were taught the basics in the school their and then were taken out into the desert. This was an incredible experience, being on horse back through the amazing surroundings!! We were relative beginers, with very little experience and were very quickly made to feel comfortable with the horses.
... ...horses, the place, the hosts, the numerous games of uno and dominoes - we both thoroughly enjoyed our visit nad will definately be returning as soon as possible!!
JUST TO ADD there are a range of times you can do depending on experience, from half hour in the school to two hour treks. For more info check out the website desertridersspain.com.
we stayed for 5 nights- the price included breakfast every morning but dinner was an additional charge.for ...

Well what can we say, We wanted a short break away from the kids and get in some riding.
The Riding was fantastic, Set in a national park. No modern life to break the beauty of the landscape.
A word of warning to those who want to party hard. This is a place of absolute beauty and charm. There are no big hotels, night clubs or crowds of tourists looking for the footie match on a plasma screen.
We visited some local Tapa's Bars with Rob and Carole, ... ...stayed with us for some enjoyable tales of 'Horsing around'.
We only spent three days there, and felt that we had been there for weeks, We were relaxed and rested beyond belief.
The hosts were so warm and freindly we felt as though we were leaving behind part of our family when we left. We are quite definitley making a return visit. ...
