Advantages Advantages Stunning views, well trained horses, friendly hosts, amazing value for money!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very hot in summer! Take lots of suntan lotion!

I've been to Desert Riders Spain 4 times now and the place is absolutely fantastic. I love it! It's my special little getaway, my best find on the internet ever, and the place I go to relax, forget about work, soak up the sun and gallop thru the desert with the wind in my hair. I wish i could live there actually! They are very reasonable on their prices compared to other companies. There are quite a few "adventure trekking" places springing up around spain as I think this idea is catching on a bit, and i've been trekking with quite a few. I can honestly say none of them offer you the freedom ... more

Advantages Advantages Great horses and people, lovely views, close to airport and village.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very hot in August, definitely need a hire car.

I was looking on the internet one day for a Horse Riding holiday in Spain. I found a couple, but none that really interested me. Then I went on ebay and just typed in "Horse Riding Spain". (I didnt want to spend ages on there!!!). There was a listing on there that interested me. The listing said they do riding in the mountains and desert. I didnt know Spain had a desert! I had rode before in the costa del sol but although where I rode was very nice, I was only allowed to ride in the arena. The roads were much to dangerous to go out and the school only catered for holidaymakers who were ... more

Advantages Advantages Beautiful peaceful friendly people and great horse riding

Disadvantages Disadvantages A short break isn't long enough and you have to hire a car

We found the site on the internet www.desertridersspain.com and booked up for a short break - Both myself and my daughter ride but my wife preferred the peace and quite and was happy to read and relax in the sun. The closest airport is Almeria but it would be feasible to fly in to Murcia or Alicante and drive down. If you can fly into Almeria it's an easy journey and only half an hour's drive. We used easy Jet but there are other airlines that fly there. We booked the car hire on line - There are lots to choose from and it's easy, the car hire people all speak better English than my Spanish ... more

Advantages Advantages Friendly people, great views and scenary, lots to do and see

Disadvantages Disadvantages Need a hire car

I must say first that we don't ride horses but we were looking for something different, so we looked on the internet for a holiday in the REAL Spain. We found a couple, but none that really interested me as they were packages and generally on the coast. Then we went on the internet for the area around Granada, as it was winter we wanted to look in the south of the country. Granada seemed a little cold for the south but as it was up in the mountains, we looked for places on the coast. We didn't fancy Malaga so looked along the coast for the next airport which was Almeria. This pointed us to the ... more

Advantages Advantages So different from the usual riding holiday

Disadvantages Disadvantages Need a car to get there - or a horse - or a mule!

Little did I realise what a chance search for 'Riding' and 'Spain' would bring up on eBay. I wasn't disappointed! A love of horses, a wish to get away, get some sun, see Spain and its culture and be with great likeminded company would seem a tall order but Villa Roxmar fulfilled all my wishes and more. Within a day I would be away from it all, riding in the footsteps of Clint Eastwood, and living and breathing Spanish horses! Whether taking a relaxing ride and a day out in the car sightseeing or just spending time around the yard, Villa Roxmar has it all! Within walking distance of the ... more

Advantages Advantages Beautiful surroundings, great people, lovely horses, relaxed atmosphere, great weather

Disadvantages Disadvantages having to come home!!

My partner and I visited for 5 days and the most amazing time. The hosts, Carole and Roberto were wonderful - making us feel very welcome and comfortable and taking us out, showing us the town and generally ensurin we had a good holiday. The horse riding was spectacular - they obviously care a lot about their horses and this was shown in the way the horses responded to them. We were taught the basics in the school their and then were taken out into the desert. This was an incredible experience, being on horse back through the amazing surroundings!! We were relative beginers, with very little ... more

    Advantages Advantages Personal, warm atmosphere.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None.

Well what can we say, We wanted a short break away from the kids and get in some riding. The Riding was fantastic, Set in a national park. No modern life to break the beauty of the landscape. A word of warning to those who want to party hard. This is a place of absolute beauty and charm. There are no big hotels, night clubs or crowds of tourists looking for the footie match on a plasma screen. We visited some local Tapa's Bars with Rob and Carole, Who after ordering for us (Neither of us speak Spanish), stayed with us for some enjoyable tales of 'Horsing around'. We only spent three days there ... more
