LA Fitness is located in the centre of the small town of Newbury in what used to be the cinema and competes with at least 3 other gyms in the area.

COSTS
My wife and I joined LA in January 2004 as they had an introductory monthly rate of just £18 and, importantly, no inflated "joining" fee which we saw as a bonus.
Compared to other gyms ... ...are no longer allowed into LA Fitness in Newbury. They changed their policy half way through last year, closed the creche giving them 1 days notice to quit and failed to tell any of the members of these plans until they turned up to use the facilities.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
I had an issue with direct debits not being collected from my bank ( I had 4 for LA as I had "introduced" 2 friends to the gym) shortly after joining. I noticed this after 12 months ...

...made a complaint via the LA Fitness website and only after some considerable time did I receive an email response. No response or apology ever came from the directly from the club, despite me knowing that they had received it. There was certainly no good will gestures such as waiving one month's membership fee, for having to endure weeks of cold showers.
The only benefits of this club is the convenience if you live / work in the centre of Newbury ...

...attend my local branch of LA Fitness.
I rang the credit control department of LAF (AKA Waffen SS HQ) and encountered the infamous Darren Knipe, one of the nastiest people I have ever spoken to . He demanded medical proof of my condition. When I offered to send him a photograph of my stump, he told me 'I needed to deal with my problems better'.
He told me he would give me 'one more chance to explain' and when I asked to speak to his manager, he ... ...The impression was that he didn't believe me and was didn't give a monkey's. He just wanted the money.
These people are staggeringly obnoxious, they have obviously been chosen because they enjoy being hateful and rude.
What a really unpleasant organisation.
Avoid LA Fitness at all costs. ...

...currently the club manager of LA Fitness Newbury and if you are reading this review the first thing I would do is to remember her name ,go into the club and ask to speak to her, who you will soon see is futile ,ineffective ,callous and rude which does not say much for this club. Also a little tip.Ask for a free day trial.Just say you are interested in joining but you want to try it first. Then you can see for yourself go and talk to current members ...
