Disadvantages: No free hands

Quick review of Leki Super Makalu Cortec Pole
Review of Leki Super Makalu Cortec Pole by 20Carleton

I hillwalk in Scotland regularly, most weekends and holidays and use walking poles. I would not be without them especially on steep downhill paths and tracks. I am going to Austria on a walking holiday in a couple of weeks. I want to take my poles but how do I pack them? Do I carry them separately or put them in with my luggage? Have never been walking abroad before so would welcome any help/advice from members.
