Advantages: Well made, nice and bright Disadvantages: Not waterproof, expensive on batteries
Maglite have been known for a long time now for their reliability and build quality. I personally think this is mainly due to good marketing. Yes, their products are good, but let me explain why there are better options. I purchased one of these 3D cell torches. It cost me just under £20. The torch feels solid and is well made. It does what a torch is meant to do and produces a nice bright beam. The batteries last OK, but being D sized cells, they ... ...but for torch use are not that great. There are no other features on offer here. Plus, it is not particularly waterproof. Showerproof yes, but heavy rain will not do it any good. In comparison, I purchased a Fenix torch, that runs from two AA cells. It cost me £35 and is a lot more compact. It is waterproof too.
