Advantages: Excercise, rehab, fun. Disadvantages: Can make your wrists stiff.
...I had heard of the power ball, had watched a couple of on line video clips and I just had to have one.
What is it?
* * * * * * * * A power ball is a little ball, roughly the size of a tennis ball, maybe slightly bigger. It is round, mine is blue with a green inside. There is a little LCD on the top to measure and display the revolutions. The ball has an inner ball inside and a gap at the bottom revealing the inner ball, a little bit like the bottom ... ...For those unfamiliar with the power ball (which I was), it i interesting and informative to look at the above website (which also sells balls), to look at some video footage for some enlightenment on the subject. At first glance it is funny, men standing up, jerking their wrist, at least that is what it looks like at first (it looks quite rude). In actual fact they are rotating their wrist, but when they are going really fast , it looks like jerking ...

Advantages: incredibly effective Disadvantages: OUCH. It hurts!
...I was recommended the power ball by a friend, so I quickly ordered it from firebox.com (who are incredibly efficient, but I will not go into that). It is actually available in several "versions". firebox.com only sell one, which is the one I wanted. It has a little rev counter on the top to check your speed. It cost £25, which did seem a bit expensive, but I was told it was worth it, so I ordered anyway.
It arrived a few days later, so i opened ... ...end of the first night, I gave up, frustrated, as I had not actually managed to get the thing into a rhythm to keep it going. I tried again the next day, and kind of "discovered" the way you do it. Once you learn you never forget! Well at first I could get it up to about 5000 RPM, which was, according to some websites I looked on, not very good. Damn, this thing was addictive, and I couldn't put it down all day. By the end of that day I had something ...

Advantages: Lots of power, easy to use Disadvantages: having sweaty palms, it tends to lose grip easier
...be worked out with the Power Ball. e.g top of your shoulders for example.
The name suits it well, i was amazed at how powerful the ball is, i spin it in my hand and pick up more speed and it feels so mental, puttings lots of pressure on your arms. it begins with your fore arms, then keep on going and you can feel it all they way up your arm.
At first i didnt have a very good grip, but using it has helped it be stronger so i can use it properly ... ...a reasonable time, after a while you will be able to make it go faster and putting more pressure on your arm, so you may need to shorten time after all.
The only problem i have is if your hand begins to sweat, it easily loses grip so i try to use it when its not too hot in my room.
and also if you have quite a large hand, my fingers sometimes nearly go underneath where you can see the ball spinning really fast, and it can burn a bit if it gets ...

Advantages: Rehabilitation, Fun, Competative, Great excercise for any sport where you use your hands Disadvantages: Takes a while to get used to it, Hurts when your not used to it.
I bought one of these Powerballs for my boyfriend as a little extra christmas present. He had seen an advertisement in a martial arts magazine about this product, and hadn't stopped on about it. As he convinced me it would improve his grip in Judo, I searched around and finally ordered it off the internet.
Christmas day came and the present was opened, "WOW, you got it for me, Thank you." Then off he went, tearing open the box, he glanced at the ... ...shop.'
The idea of the device is to start the 'gyro' by winding a string around the internal section then pulling it out to start the rotating movement. The object of the participant is to rotate his/her wrist and keep the momentum of the gyro going. This inturn becomes harder, the faster the gyro turns, and the faster the gyro turns the harder it is to hold on to the ball, therfore making you grip tighter. The main areas, this device works, is ...

Advantages: Excercises your wrist, Addictive, Fills in boring moments Disadvantages: £25!!!, Hurts if you do too much, Cord breaks easily
...jokes aside, I'm reviewing the power ball. I got this fantastic piece of equipment using my iPoints so I didn't have to pay for it so I maybe biassed a little, but not really. Ok, onto the power ball. Well it's meant to be a wrist exceriser but it's also very addictive. Basically you thin the starting cord around the inner section, give it a quick tug and move your wrist in a smooth circular motion to rotate the inner section and get it to rotate ... ...quite that simple. The technique takes a bit of practising but once you get the hang of the little b**ch you won't be able to put it down. There's a little computer on the top which tells you(in 3 different modes) the current rpm of the inner section, the best rpm yet(resetable) and your personal strength index which basically records the rotations in 30 seconds. It's very light but once you get it started it can push up to 26 kg against your wrist. ...
