Advantages: snug horse, less worry, more time - hurrah! Disadvantages: None
Horseware Rambo supreme heavyweight turnout rug
My horse is a sensitive soul, needing to be wrapped up warm in the winter
and shielded from the flies in the summer. So he is rugged up for 90% of
the time!
For all you non-horsy types a rug is a coat that covers the horse's body
from his shoulder to his tail, fastening under his belly and round his
chest. Some horses particularly the finer types racehorses for example have
been bred over the ... ...magpie eye spied the new Rambo supreme in the
Derby house catalogue and I was immediately impressed. It covers the horse
from his neck, just behind the ears right to his tail. The neck cover is
removable for milder days; this is secured to the main body of the rug with
a chunky spiral zip. This also has the added bonus of 'laying' the horse's
mane. For all you non-horsy types the horse's mane should lay on the left
hand side, if you look at ...

Advantages: Keeps my old pony warm, dry and cosy Disadvantages: expensive to buy. A bit too much choise!
...I have owned horse wear/ rambo products for several years now and cannot praise them highly enough.
==Background==
Rambo turnout rugs are made by Horsewear, Ireland, a successful equine (and now also human) clothing manufacturer, which has been in business for over 20 years. They also produce indoor rugs, most notably the Rhino and horse acssesories (travle boots etc). The rambo rug was designed as the first rug not to slip, leak or restrict the ... ...in a row! The Rambo comes in slightly different designs and styles and there is also rhino turnouts as well now. ==Products==
Rambo original: This is the green rug with red cross surcingles, fillet string and front straps. The outer of this rug is ballistic nylon, with a nylon line. It is marketed as waterproof and breathable. It is the product I owned initally for my 14.2hh event pony. He is half thoroughbred but hates being stabled, and despite ...

Advantages: Light, warm, dont slip, never rub, horses seem to like them and dont try to get them off. Excellent value for money. Disadvantages: Expensive to buy, although I believe they are extremely cost effective.
...Someone suggested I buy a Rambo rug, and I laughed when they told me the cost. I was convinced I would be flushing 145 pounds down the drain. This person was so convinced that I wouldnt, that she leant me one of hers to try and was happy to accept the consequences!
My first thought on the Rambo rug was that it was too light, and would slip, or not be warm enough. I also thought that beacuse it was lightweight that it would be easier for my horse ... ...and bought both my horses Rambo rugs over 9 months ago, and both rugs are in petty good condition. They have got the odd small tear from bites over the fences (but thats just part of having a horse...nothing stays 100% forever).
The rugs are simply brilliant, never slipping, and they never leave unsightly rub marks on the horses chests, like others before have. Also, mine both have front fastenings that are made up of a ring and two clips (like ...

Advantages: Breathable, comfortable, waterproof and hardwearing. Disadvantages: absolutely none
I just can't praise Rambo rugs highly enough. Two of my horses have Rambo Turnouts on all through the winter. They both live out with access to a dry shelter and the rugs only come off when I ride them, about twice a week in winter. These rugs are warm and comfortable, they never slip and are completely waterproof. On the coldest night of the year you can slip your hand under these rugs and your horse will be as warm and dry as toast. It doesn't ... ...it may be tempting to go for a cheaper option but I know from experience that this is a false economy. If you stretch to the extra cost of a Rambo it will last you years and you will be thrilled with the quality. Your horse will thank you too! ...

Advantages: Everything Disadvantages: The cost!! But well worth it
I have 2 rambo turnout rugs, the standard rug and also the wug, the wug is the one with attached neck cover/hood.
Both of these rugs are of superb quality, having owned them for 2 years I have just had them washed and re-proofed and they look as good as new. The shiny inside material is excellent for making your horses coat shine!! I use my rambo's on both my old mare (21 years young) and my youngster who is only 3 and neither of them have any rips ... ...rambos are that they are both indoor and outdoor rugs that let the horses skin breathe - so more changing rugs morning and night!!!! They are best left on anyway if wet as the water never gets through them and the heat of the horse will dry them out quicker than if you removed them and left them in a cold feed/tack room to dry!!
I would highly recommend these rugs to anyone, they never seem to slip or move or rub either! Excellent value for money. ...

Advantages: Tough, effective, fit Disadvantages: Not cheap
...boy, is it effective!
Rambo rugs are part of the Weatherbeater company, a manufacturer with a fantastic reputation for quality.
Rambo is one of their sub lines and includes a diverse range from fly rugs to heavy weight turn outs.
Rambo turnouts come in a range of weights so that you can build up an enormous collection of rugs to suit any foible of the British weather! If you are smarter than me, you would probably stick to a lightweight, a heavyweight ... ...vary hugely in cut. The Rambo is generously cut so you do not have to buy a bigger than usual size. They are also cut quite deep so they are great for a broad or deep barreled horse or pony. In fact they are one of the few brands I have come across that seem to suit both horses and ponies.
Appearence is fairly irrelevant as any turnout rug will soon be covered in mud, but these look pretty smart and are available in a range of colours.
My horse ...

Advantages: Completely waterproof and non slip Disadvantages: Pricey
My heavyweight rambo turnout rug has been nothing but fantastic since i purchased it. From day one its been completely waterproof in all kinds of weather, its never slipped despite some extreme rolling by my horse and my mare has happily lived out 24/7 with her clip and stayed lovely and cosy. It hasnt snagged on any of the fences either and nor has any of the other horses left any snags on it whilst they were playing
The down side is the price.. ... ...time but my rug is over a year old and looks and acts like new still so they are good investment. One point is that they seem to come up quite deep on some horses so seem to fit well on the types with bigger barrel body or deeper girth as it does come quite near to my mares knees! ...

Advantages: Cosy, great fit, easy to fasten, lightweight Disadvantages: Expensive
...always dreamed of owning a Rambo Wug, and saved religously to buy my first. I am not disappointed at all.
I have used my Rambo heavyweight turnout for several horses, and it fits them all superbly, from a skinny Thoroughbred to my chunky cross bred. The Rambo rug is easy to fasten, although the cross surcingles do have a type of locking elastic band on, so can only be turned one way to release them. The lack or leg straps means that I never have ... ...seen my wimpy TB through his first winter out full time. Even on snowy mornings he was cosy and content. It never slips, and so far no horse has had any rubs. I also have several of the equally brilliant Rambo stable rugs, which I cannot recommend enough. ...

Advantages: good fit; warm Disadvantages: my rug was faulty; poor customer service.
Unfortunately, on the Rambo Supreme I bought there was a fault in the manufacture of it and the neck cover kept detaching and falling off. I contacted Horseware several times, but they didn't respond at all. I eventually had to go to the Irish version of Trading Standards and suggest legal action before I got a response. Horseware then declined to replace the faulty rug and eventually 'repaired' the original one that had never been right from the ... ...took almost a year to resolve, and I had to buy another rug/neck cover for my pony in the meantime. Horseware didn't appear to me to be apologetic or concerned about the inconvenience or expense I'd been caused. I was very disappointed that such an expensive rug had been faulty when I bought it,, and even more disappointed that the level of customer service in my case was so poor. I'm sure others have had better experiences with this company, but ...

Advantages: Lightweight, Breathable, Waterproof, Cosy and Snug! Disadvantages: Expensive but worth the money
I first bought a rambo rug 5 years ago and that one is still going strong! Although they are expensive you certainly get your moneysworth. They are light-weight, breathable and totally waterproof (and guaranteed to be so for 3 years, so no expensive reproofing for three winters). They also have a satin type lining which keeps your horses coat all smooth and sleek and makes rug removal a doddle.
Mine fits by TB Mare perfectly, no rubbing or slipping ... ...even just invested in a Rambo Duo to add to her wardrobe and already that is proving to be another briliant purchase. I cannot rate them highly enough and would recommend them even to those who are on a limited budget as they last years unlike some cheaper rugs which you have to replace every year. ...

Advantages: The rugs are watertight even in torrential rain Disadvantages: When used on my Welsh Cobs they tended to rub the shoulders
...I was first introduced to Rambo Rugs some seven years ago. Once tried I never used anything else. I found them to be watertight even in a huge downpour even at the seams. Even when very wet the rugs were still reasonably lightweight to carry and dry - often drying quite easily in a barn or tack room overnight. The only problem I had with the rugs was a slight tendency to rub on the horse's shoulder - this did not happen to every horse - and those ... ...during the showing season, the Rambo light was a godsend. After washing a grey horse I was quite happy to turnout to the field and no that he would come in quite clean the following morning. However, a friend of mine who had a small Welsh Section B pony rated the Wug very highly! ...

Advantages: Top quality and fully waterproof Disadvantages: none
Rambo horse rugs are manufactured by Horseware Ireland and in my opinion are the best brand of rugs on the market. I have a varied yard of horses and i have always found horseware rugs to always give me a good fit.
The rambo range are by far the top end of the horseware products and this is reflected in the price, however as the saying goes you get what you pay for.
The Rambo Supreme is a good durable warm rug that seems to stay in one place even ... ...with other leading brands in the market.
I also found the rambo chest extender extremely useful with my pregnant mare as she got larger the rug got that little bit tighter round her shoulders but by fitting the extender it gave her that little bit more room that she needed. ...
