A chain is just a chain? Not entirely. Modern derailleur chains employ a construction known as bushingless, developed originally by Sachs-Sedis. If you split the narrow link, you can see for yourself what a bushingless chain looks like. Bushingless chains have one major advantage over a bushed chain. The bushingless design is better at allowing lube to get to the centre of the chain, and the lube moves from the centre to the outside carrying dirt and grit with it.
