Last summer I went to Torquay I England with my father for a hoilday.
As usual I decided to take some fishing tackle seeing as Torquay is a seaside resort, but I didnt take any bait hoping that some could be bought when we got to out destination.
Torquay has got a nice sized harbour as some people will know. We walked around the harbour and I decided that I was going to have a go at fishing off the harbour for some sea fish. Fortunately there was a local fishing tackle shop within 5 minutes walk from the harbour so I decided to go and take a look in there.

1. HARBOUR RAGWORM.
Harbour ragworm are small in size and ideal for using when targeting Mullet as it will take 1-2 to fill a size 1 hook.
Try sliding two harbour rag tail first onto your hook and use a small slither (1-2mm sized long cut ) of Mackeral skin tipped on the hook you can use a small piece of bait elastic around the tail of the worm to help keep them up the hook shank.
Mullet go mad for this kind of cocktail (mixed bait) and will feed quite hard on this presentation which is a rarety for Mullet to feed...

...as they are free to the collector if you should feel the need to store them then a bowl of seawater changed everyday in the bottom of a fridge is fine though you should only put 5-6 in each bowl, they will last 2-3 days after that throw them back in the area you are going to be fishing for Plaice etc, and this in turn will bait up the area you are planning to target.
2. Cockles
Go to a sandy Harbour and use a normal garden grass rake and rake the top of the sand and you should depending on your area gather enough for a fishing trip in a short space of time and effort.
Again care with a knife is needed to open these but they are easier than the Mussel.
These make for excellent cocktail mixers when Bass or Cod fishing either from shore or boat Red Gurnards love them to.
Again a small amount of bait elastic is needed, and look for the firm part to set...
