...can buy the wax from barbour outlets and some equestrian shops - it costs about £5 for a tin which will last several years - be warned you do not need to put much wax on the jacket overwaxing will make it sticky.
They are good for walking and riding and you can get them in different lengths including the one that goes down to your feet for the real outdoors in all weather person.

These boots were my best leather riding boots so far. I bought the first pair 4 years ago in Devon and I they lasted me 3 years. I wear them about 4 times a week. They have a nice long leg, stay up and last very well. The tread is not very heavy, good in the stirrup but a bit slippery on wet grass. Disadvantages: cumbersome, leaked, not sure grip
I don't know if I was unlucky, but my pair leaked at the knee after 3 uses. I found them very cumbersome to wear, I didn't really want to walk in them (I know they are for riding but once you are out in the wet you might as well catch your horse in them).
