Advantages: Catch you bigger fish Disadvantages: Fragile and take a lot of looking after if you're going to store them correctly, keeping them fresh
...species. I’m mainly thinking of the silvery roach. The difference between fishing a maggot and a caster can sometimes be quite suprising. Put on a maggot, and you’ll get a piddley little thing. Put on the caster and yippee, you’ve got yourself a bigger one. I’m not saying that it will always work, but if you get everything right, then you can enjoy an excellent days fishing.
For some reason, I’ve actually found them to work best from autumn through to spring. During the summer months the fish always seem to go totally crazy, and using the casters really seems to make little difference to the size of the fish I catch. During these months, the water is obviously a little cooler though, so the fish aren’t darting around all over the place, snapping up every free morsel they see.
There are obviously many...

It's knowing where to start really because I've been using this bait for almost 30 years. I have caught many sizeable tench (up to 6 1/2 lb) and carp ( 20lb +) using this bait. Other species caught include Roach (2lb) , ide (2 1/2 lb) and bream (6lb). I have caught barbel and chubb using it too. To me corn is one of the best all round baits, second only to maggots.
Last year I had a very good day. I was fishing on my local syndicate water, using corn for bait, and I managed to catch over 300lb of fish (tench, bream and roach) in only 5 hours. Many of the fish caught were over 4lb, and by the end every muscle in my body was aching.....It was almost a fish every cast!!
To me this truely is a wonderbait and one I highly recommend for use in the summer and autumn. So what are you waiting for.... go and get some today.
Can you afford...

Advantages: Best allround bait available. All fish love em'. Pretty cheap too - about £2 a pint Disadvantages: Climb all over the place if you let them get wet.
...(like squatts), so are good to feed even in the summer when you’re after roach or other smaller species. Attracting them in to the upper layers of the water where they become VERY easy to catch. Last summer I fished for 4 hours one day and caught about 400 roach and rudd which weighed a total of just over 100lb, just by feeding about ½ a pint of pinkies whilst using bigger maggots on the hook. You can even get away with quite thick lines when they’re feeding well.
Bennys recommendation on hook size would be a 22, and nothing bigger really.
Big Maggots (haven’t got a clue about a real name, they’re just referred to as ‘maggots’)
These are the most common ones, sold by nearly all tackle shops. Despite most things going metric, I’ve normally...
