Trek...... This is fast
Review of Trek 1200 by
yackers1
Advantages: fast, light, high spec for cheap price
Disadvantages: None
...there I saw it…… The Trek 1200 in black and red.
I knew the Trek name and knew that they were generally a good, quality brand. That was it though.
The price was £799 which was way over my budget, but because it was a 2006 model I could have something knocked off it. The bike was described as 'shop soiled' since it had fallen over and had a tiny scratch on the frame. If the bloke hadn't told me this I would never have noticed it despite looking ... ...grin on my face.
Trek History
***************
Trek is an American company which was started in 1976 in a barn in Waterloo, Wisconsin. By 1980 the company had outgrown it's original factory and moved to new premises. The owners decided to keep the company in its 'home town' of Waterloo.
In 1982 Trek started producing road racing bikes and the 750/050 series was born.
Trek became global in 1989 and the first overseas subsidiaries were formed in ...

Trev Tries Trek
Review of Trek 1.2 Double by
trevorbrock
Advantages: Good re-introduction to road bikes
Disadvantages: expense and pedals
...the general direction of the Trek brand.
Local Belfast bike shop does Trek's and Trev knows one of the owners.!
So it was off to Bike-It to see what they had on offer.
For someone who has not been on a bike since they evolved in Noah's ark, it was a shock to see modern bike technology in the flesh, so to speak.
Why did no-one ever tell me that they have invented brakes that can actually stop a heavyweight cyclist in less than 800 yards?
Why ... ...a drain grating.
The Trek 1.2 Double won the day after a very generous discount from the dealer.
The list price is £499 and I can't tell you publicly how good the reduction was! - but it was amazing - thanks Dave and Chris.
3 The Vital Details
If you look on the Trek site you will get the technical details of the bike among their glittering 2008 productions.
Some of the spec details would be meaningless to you - as some are still to me.
But ...

Kids do not laugh at me anymore
Review of Dahon Speed P8 by
Wrinkly_Toes_in_Bath
Advantages: sturdy and solid, great looking, good to ride and very useful
Disadvantages: doesn't quite fold up as small as a Brompton
...I have found the Dahon to be a sturdier bike in this respect, the solid frame with the central connection has meant that I don't mind going round people on the path. I have even embraced the inner child and carried out a few jumps on my beauty, shes a little unstable at the front so landing properly is important but she takes a jump well, I haven't dared ride without holding the handle bars yet, but shes steady as a rock even on rougher ground.
... ...on the P8. The Dahon is a little bit heavier than the Brompton but this is barely noticable.
The Brompton brakes have always been a little easy, I liken it to driving an older car before ABS, sure they will stop you, but you should start planning when you want to stop. The Dahon breaks are awesome, capable of being operated with a single finger and reassuringly solid in their breaking capacity. My only concern would be that once fell of the bike ...

Brompton L3
Review of Brompton L3 Bicycle by
claire47
Advantages: Very easy to fold and good to ride
Disadvantages: Not fantastic at off road
I have a Brompton L3 that is now approx 3 ½ years old. I use it everyday to commute to work - I cycle to the station, fold it up and take on the train and then cycle the other end about 1 ½ miles to work.
I love the bike and although it was expensive I think it has been good value for money considering how often I have used it.
It folds up easily and quickly and so many people are amazed when they see it folding. I have found that it is so small ... ...managed to fall off my Brompton in this situation. I have taken it along rougher surfaces, such as the canal towpath and it was ok, although again, you need to be careful as the tyres don't grip to the paths all that well.
Plus points:
Really easily to fold up and very compact when folded. Easily fits in the boot of a car (I have found it will fit in the boot of a Ford Ka with a little juggling)
Distinctive looking
Made in ...
