Trev Tries Trek

Advantages: Good re-introduction to road bikes
Disadvantages: expense and pedals

...the general direction of the Trek brand. Local Belfast bike shop does Trek's and Trev knows one of the owners.! So it was off to Bike-It to see what they had on offer. For someone who has not been on a bike since they evolved in Noah's ark, it was a shock to see modern bike technology in the flesh, so to speak. Why did no-one ever tell me that they have invented brakes that can actually stop a heavyweight cyclist in less than 800 yards? Why ...
...a drain grating. The Trek 1.2 Double won the day after a very generous discount from the dealer. The list price is £499 and I can't tell you publicly how good the reduction was! - but it was amazing - thanks Dave and Chris. 3 The Vital Details If you look on the Trek site you will get the technical details of the bike among their glittering 2008 productions. Some of the spec details would be meaningless to you - as some are still to me. But ...

Tour de France technology at Entry level price

Advantages: Value, Carbon Fork and Seat post
Disadvantages: Sora shifters

The Trek 1000 is an excellent value for money Entry level Road bike. The increasing demand for road bikes is a result of Triathlons huge and continuing success in the UK. There are few bikes in the Market which geniunley consider that ther are those of us out there who don't have a couple of grand to chuck away on a carbon bike, Enter Trek. The 1000 is serious value for money. The frame uses the same geometery as was used for 7 timeTour de france ...
...... However the material is clearly not carbon but Aluminium however the from Fork is carbon and 2006 version also has a carbon seatpost, i beleve they have phased this out in the 2007 edition. The Gear setup is pretty low end. Sora Shifters, Tiagra Rear mech, and shimano standard everything else. However you do get what you pay for and for entry -intermediate level rider this shoud be quite enough to get you going. If you really can't bear some ...

Racing bike for beginners and professionals alike.

Advantages: All rounder and easy upgradable components.
Disadvantages: Trek - Attracted to Theives - keep the bike safe.

I bought this bike a year ago from a triathalete who had taken part in numerous long distance races. The built quality is pretty impressive and is designed to last. Unlike other mass produced bikes the difference is pretty noticable. The bike is not that heavy and felt almost too light whislt riding on smooth roads. As you pick up the speed it sometimes feels as your flyin through air. My particular model was pretty moded. Custom straddle, lighter ...
...with xenon levers and shimano tiagra brakes. I also had aero bars fitted which created sleek and comfortable ride. This is a nice bike for someone who wants to test out riding on the road or racing in small races. On the other hand it can be upgradeable as the frame is pretty decent with cabon forks and superlight aluminium. ...

Silky smooth ride

Advantages: Smooth ride and handling.
Disadvantages: Not a ideal criterium bike

I bought the 2003 model so after 4 years of riding it I thought why not write a review! The bike is very easy to live with, I have had no mechanical problems to speak of. In fact i did not have any punctures for the first 2 years, and was beginning to think the bike was "blessed" in some way. Ride quality is silky smooth. Obviously it is a stiff bike but the carbon frame and design geometry take the harshness out of the bumps. In fact in some bizzar ...
...the frame soaks them up (!?). It's true - honest! The bike handles like a dream. It does not have the kind of sharp handling you might desire of a criterium bike, but this has been designed for race tours. Consequently it goes into corners smoothly and then corners like it's on rails. Power transfer is excellent also - better than my previous aluminium Canondale. Frame quality is excellent and the bontrager components are good value for money. The ...

"KING OF THE MOUNTAINS"" (HILLS ANYWAY) TREK 5.2 MADONE

Advantages: GREAT LOOKS. HANDLING. COMFORT . SPEC.
Disadvantages: WHITE PAINTWORK (BUT ONLY BECAUSE OF THE MORE FRQUENT CLEANING)

Lance Armstrong suggested that Trek name their top end bikes 'Madone' after the Col de la Madone in southern France. A mountain that Armstrong used to use as a training run in the run up to The Tour de France. His times up the mountain side let him know if he was ready or not! It's no surprise then, that the 2009 Trek Madone 5.2 weighs in at around 7.7kg (just under 17lb for the oldies). A bike needs to be light if it is to haul it's rider up a mountain ...
...and on a descent. The Trek Madone 5.2 comes in three different fits depending on ride comfort required. The WSD (women's), Performance (longer headtube for higher and position) and Pro ( smaller headtube ). You also have the option of a Compact (20 speed) or a Triple (30 speed) delivered through the Shimano Ultegra 10 speed groupset. I live in Yorkshire, in Pennines and Dales country, and as such, I find hills unavoidable but I have found that the ...
