In 1973 Denver had travelled to London to record a series of variety shows for the BBC and I have very fond memories of my father insisting we all watch it every night it aired - and I must admit this was no chore for me as even at the age of nine, I liked John Denver.
My dad had got into Denver's music via "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and had had to buy his records on import as in the early 70s Denver's music was not being released in the UK. I well remember him heading off to Gloria's Records which was on the Battlefield Road in Glasgow, to pick up a Denver album he had ordered and had to wait at least two months for and had to pay through the nose for - a concept which seems bizarre today in the internet age.
