reinserting a joining pin, I only ever use an SRAM powerlink to do so. I do replace chains/cogs/crank rings before they are badly worn, and my chain gets cleaned and lubed after every muddy ride.
951, 971 or 991?
SRAM produce 3 flavours of this chain. The 951, 971 and 991. Bigger numbers equals extra cash. The 991 is around £10 more expensive than the 951. The only difference between them is the anti-corrosion nickel coating on the more expensive chains. Otherwise they are identical.
Anti-corrosion coatings are unnecessary on a chain. A lubed chain will not corrode. Corrosion on the outer-surfaces is self-cleaning anyway. A few turns through the rear cassette and it will be ground off. I have never had a problem with corrosion on the 951 chain. Coming with a one year warranty, I thought that some new SRAM, from Compaq, would not be a bad buy. I brought it from Amazon, for about £29.99.
With 1MB L2 cache, this was very fast indeed, and would be much better than my existing 512KB of SRAM. With a one year guarantee included, you cant really go working , not that it did at all, with very good customer support for all their products, Compaq have won the support of me.
When I tried this out, with windows xp home edition, on an already fast computer, it made the processor run things much faster, I could tell the difference straight away.
Installing this was very easy, well, as easy as any other SRAM would be to install.
I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to make their computer run faster with more stability and at a cheap cost as well.
