Having tried a few different exercise mats in the past I found that price doesn't always give many clues as to the success or quality of of the product you are buying. With this in mind I went to my local Sainsbury's store and bought their Foam Exercise Mat for £7.99. I had used ones from a number of large supermarkets in the past with varied success, but as my exercise mat were showing signs of wear I decided to replace it due to the small cost involved.
There isn't much aesthetically to really say about the exercise mat. It is pale blue in colour and of a reasonable size at 150cm X 60cm and is 60mm thick. The mat is therefore quite thin and doesn't offer perhaps as much protection as it could do against hard surfaces. That said I think the pricing reflects this and I never expected a super duper product. The exercise mat fits my needs for general and light use and allows me to exercise wherever I want as it protects me from hard surfaces and also carpet burns! The pale blue colour also deems it suitable for both men and women as it isn't a particularly male or female colour.
The exercise mat is very simply designed and plain. As it is easy to wipe clean I know it can be used by a few people without having to worry about sweat building up on it. I can wear trainers when using the mat, knowing I can wipe it clean easily before storing it away. The mat is especially useful to me whilst doing sit-ups, as if you just do them on the floor I find my spine soon begins to rub and ache.
The exercise mat is adequate for my needs and I don't have any complaints with anything other than it could be a little bit thicker. Overall you get what you pay for and I think for £7.99 it is a good value exercise mat for someone wanting to start doing a few light exercises in the comfort of their own home. I am unable to find this product on the Sainsburys website, though it may still be sold instore.
