Sandeels are of course at the very top of the marinelife food chain and in being so their uses are endless and the fish that eat them are plentyful. They will catch Bass, Pollack,Plaice, Gurnard, Flounder, Dogfish,etc. If using for flatfish try hooking them tailfirst with heads cut off to allow scent to flow freely. All other speices can be hooked as desired by yourself as long as they are threaded along the hook. When used as live bait they are deadly, but keeping them alive is a hard task, you need a bucket and an aereator which is a pump that puts oxygen in the water for them to breathe if all else fails wrap them in a damp towel they will live for a couple of hours. When bought frozen check they are not yellow even a slight yellowy appearance and you should return them or have another packet as when they are yellow they will burst when defrosted and put on your hook. They come in sizes Small, Medium, Large so if you are after that under 1 pound record fish you can use the small and if you are chasing either a record Bass or Ray then use large. The size you buy should also be matched to the size hooks you are planning to use my advice is always put sandeel on one rod and another bait on the other this way you will see how good of a bait sandeels are Goodluck Tightlines.
