Schwalbe Big Apple MTB Tyre Features: Puncture protection Great for city riding Slick tread reduces rolling resistance Grooves for traction in wet weather
Advantages: Good quality components, well built. Disadvantages: Rather heavy, front suspension.
...Not a bad bike at all, but it's failing is that it can't make up it's mind if it's one thing or the other. It's set up to be a light use MTB / rough towpath bike with semi-knobbly tyres, front suspension and a bouncy seatpost.
As a MTB, it's too frail, as a city commuter it's too heavy and bouncy. It's ideal use would be taking the kids for Sunday rides around forestry trails.
Using mine for a 10 mile hilly commute, mainly on cycle paths, I felt mine was let down by the front suspension and the poor Tioga tyres. I changed the tyres to semi-slicks which helped, and swapped the seat post to a solid one to which let me put the power down better.
The front suspension still made the bike far heavier than it needed to be (36 lb including a rack) and the suspension saps your effort when pedalling hard. Along the flat this wan't too much...

Advantages: Light weight, durable well made tyres Disadvantages: A little pricey
...After finding a set of these on Ebay for half the RRP, I patiently waited for them to arrive, and I was eager to see just how good these tyres were. On my previous experiences with Michelin tyres, I have always liked the stability and grip that was offered with their Downhill range of tyres, and was unsure what to expect with these lighter weight, more Cross Country orientated models.
Once they arrived the first thing I noticed was how light the tyres were, probably due to the Kevlar folding beading and tough, but not overbuilt construction of the casing. One of my worries were that they would have skinny sidewalls like other lightweight tyres, but these have thicker than normal sidewalls giving added stability whilst still retaining a light weight.
The tyres have a deep tread pattern that is flexible and helps the tyre clear mud...

Advantages: ace grip no slip Disadvantages: fairly expensive
...These conti tye are simply amazing .
first of all they are so easy to fit with minimal effort any one can fit them, these tyres perform really well in both dry and wet conditions I have never had a slide on them yet,
I have always used conti tyres ever since I can remember
The tread pattern is not the smae as any other tyre available it is cut with water groves to help with water dissapation which also helps keep the tyre warm when you are motoring along the roads at high speeds.
I recommend that you blow the tyres up to around 40 psi that is the pressure I have found them to work at there best. I regularly do rides of 20 miles plus with no problem and the tyres just have'nt worn at all
a great buy although quiet expensive....
