Great choice of fins, though at a price

Advantages: Very little effort required underwater, flexible
Disadvantages: Not cheap, not the best for long surface swims

My Mares Volo Power fins are among the favourite items of my dive kit. While pricey, they do a very good job, and make finning underwater incredibly easy. One of the few drawbacks is I find they're not as good for surface swims, particularly against current. They are longer than many standard fins, which takes some getting used to, and it's something to be aware of when you're near fragile coral reef. However, they're also ultra-flexible, and I usually ...
...wearing them. Initially I found the quick-release catch at the side to be rather cumbersome - the lock-unlock mechanism isn't very easy with gloves on. To be honest, I've now taken to closing and not locking them, and they've never opened up while I'm in the water. When these fins first appeared on the market they were pretty expensive - I believe the price has dropped now, which makes them much better value. My pair are second-hand but you wouldn't ...

Is big cat a big player?

Advantages: resonable price, plenty of thrust
Disadvantages: locking clasp awkward to use

I have owned a pair of these fins for several years and they have served me well for over 80 dives. They were bought as a spare pair incase of emergencies such as trainees forgetting there own ones ect. however I have ended up using them rather alot myself. I have found them to be very comfortable and not had cramp whilst wearing them like some fins seem to cause. The clasps have a lock on the side of them to prevent them from coming undone I have ...
...a mid winter dive with numb fingers. The locks always seem to get knocked and by the end of a dive your never really sure what position they are in as it is not clearly marked, and as the lever part of the clasp is stiff in either position you an end up trying to wrench it open when in the locked position, so would recommend changing them for the more user friendly pinch type clasp. The fins produce ample thust comparable with the more expensive ...

Feel the speed in rubber

Advantages: Good power generation
Disadvantages: Ease of using release clips

...set of fins made by Sherwood called the Kinesis Ex Fins. I had read a positive write up about them already and I fund them to be the most suitable for my style of diving and although at the top end of my price range they were too good in the water to pass up. According to the marketing blurb the fins incorporate Optimal Pivot Blade (OPB) technology. What this means is that on the downward stroke of the kick the blade flexes around its mid point ...
...that is the theory and naturally with increased efficiency comes less tiredness and greater speed. The fin is a solid design with a grooved front panel running down the centre of the fin and two side vents. In reality these fins worked very well for me, I was really impressed with how much power I could exert without much effort, this is really useful to have especially while diving in strong currents when occasionally you become exposed and need ...

Just about the best fins out there.

Advantages: Best fins i have ever used
Disadvantages: Very plain looking, everyone has them

...world will know about the Oceanic split fin craze, for divers that have use the V12 fins they will know how good they are and all the other divers that haven't used them want too lol. The thing that makes these fins so good is the split in them; non divers might think how can you move yourself along underwater if you have a big split in your fins. Well the answer is better than you can if you don't have a split in your fins. The Oceanic Vortex V12 ...
...they look pretty good and Oceanic could have done allot worse. Design: The V12's work like a dream, because of the split in the fin it allows you to use allot smaller kicks and travel just as far as normal fins. Oceanic have also added a very nice fin strap. Its quite chunky and it has a hole in it so you can get your finger in a really pull it up your boots which I find is very helpful if you are in a big bulky dry suit and you want your fins to ...
