Underwater Workhorse
Advantages: Easy breathing, looks great Disadvantages: weights a bit
Although not my choice of regulator set, my most frequent dive buddy has got himself an MR22 set and being the inquisitive, safety conscious buddy that I am I insisted in making absoloutely sure that his rig was safe! My immediate thought upon picking it up was "****** this is heavy!" - BUT I hasten to add that a huge factor when I chose my set was weight (for reasons I won't go into I needed a balance of high performance with ultra light weight).
... ...274g
Abyss octopus - 270g
This reg set was brilliant though - it's solid and can certainly take a bit of a knocking: although if you're caught up at heathrow with nothing to do, I wouldn't advice playing a game of catch with it.
Anyone who's seen the adverts for the Abyss will see that it's passed the U.S. Navy tests - with flying colours [although you should note that these tests might not reflect the same demands you have for such a regulator ...

Great, but not as good as...........
Advantages: Smooth and easy to breathe from Disadvantages: Seem a little expensive these days
..........my poseidon Jetstream.
When I first started diving I had a single 12 litre cylinder and one reg, my jetstream. When I had been diving for a little while longer I decided to move upto twin 10 litre cylinders and so needed another reg. Having used a jetstream all the time I had been diving, and after having lots of other "older" members of my club tell me that the cyclon was better and easier to use, I decided to get one of those for my ... ...seem really easy to breathe off and use and still is, but now that I am more experienced than I was back in my early diving days, if I were in the same position again I would buy another jetstream and not the cyclon. There is no particular reason for this, I just find the jetstream easier to breathe from and more controllable. Would recommend either to both new and old divers alike. ...

Tusa TR 400 Imperex
Advantages: Good design Disadvantages: Stickey Valves
...have been trying out the Tusa TR 400 Imperex for two weeks now. I have found it to be very good regulator. The valves seem to be of good quality. At first it worked perfectly and I thought I would never use another regulator. However on my fith dive with the Tusa TR 400 Imperex. As I reached the 40 meter mark the regulator got stuck in the open possition and was squerting out air. When I reached the surface and took the regulator to a reputable dive ... ...had fitted a faulty valve. He fixed the problem and the regulator has been fine since then. I don't think it's a common problem so I wouldn't worry about it.
The Specifiacations are as follows:-
1st Stage
Light weight 620g (21.9oz/1.37lb) inline balanced piston (PAT.) first-stage. Two H.P. ports and four L.P. ports. 2nd Stage
Breathing resistance adjustment knob. Colours: Black Only. Overall it's a very nice regulator ...

A delight to trust in all waters.
Advantages: Easy breathing, excellent build Disadvantages: Not cheap
...times I had used a Mares reg., though the companies excellent reputation gave me a good feeling about it. The MR22 Diaphragm First stage features the DFC (Dynamic Flow Control) system and a replaceable HP seat connector. The HP seat is designed for a 2 year/200 dive service interval; double the standard seat life! The Abyss Second stage with its Vortex Assisted Design system is made of nickel and chrome plated Brass This offers a number of benefits: ... ...good anti freeze function which is enhanced by the radiator action of the metal, allowing for use in more extreme conditions. Breathing at all levels was easy, with the air coming out in at a good volume and without serious demand. My one gripe is with the mouthpiece itself, in that it was slightly too small, though this is easily remedied with a personalised change. All in all, a pleasure to use, which should last years due to its solid build. ...

Everybody else has one....
Advantages: good all round performance Disadvantages: Can't really mount it from any side without difficulty
......but I will stick with my poseidons. I have always dived with Poseidon regs unless I have been borrowing kit (due to mine being serviced) and have always been very happy with. However there was a point in time when everybody I knew was buying an Abyss reg and ranting and raving on about it. So for a brief while I dived with 2 Abyss' instead of my poseidons. I hated them!! They were extreamly easy to breathe off and worked very well, the only ... ...my mouth. With every breath it seemed that I was getting ice cold air bombarding my front teeth, which meant by the end of my dive I had a lot of toothache. Although this pain would pass in a few hours, I never had this kind of problem with the poseidons. Hence I will not be diving with them again. ...
