105? Is That The Mileage Between Adjustments?

Advantages: Easy to fit
Disadvantages: Tricky to adjust ,at least if it's your first time

Well, s*** in a bag and punch it, Chris has written a short(ish) one! If ever there was an item that I?ve bought purely on price, it?s my Shimano 105 ?rear mechanism? for the pushbike I?m currently cobbling together. The name ?Shimano? is now very nearly ubiquitous*, especially on new bikes bought from Halfords, the PC World of the biking fraternity! That of course is not necessarily good publicity, but since I?m only putting together a ?hybrid? bike, in more senses than one, I?m not into ?Roll-Royce solutions?. A hybrid bike would I suppose have been called a ?tourer? the last time I was into buying a new one, it having fairly slender less knobbly tyres compared to a mountain bike, with similar gears but larger diameter wheels, (almost as large as a racing bike) and straight handlebars. When I say ?rear mechanism?, if you ...

Shimano Dura Ace Rear Mech (RD-7700-SS)

Advantages: Top of the range "bling" rear mech
Disadvantages: 9 speed "only", superceeded by RD-7800 10-speed version

usual, the Shimano instructions are very simple to follow, although as with all jobs of this type a basic knowledge of bicycle maintenace is required. It's a beautifully made item, with lots of cold-forged, anodized aluminum giving the mech a "jewellery" look (in my opinion, better looking than the new 10-speed version) and has so far always shifted faultlessly with 105 STI levers. Mine is the "SS" version, with the short cage, although a longer cage version is (was?) also available to work with wider range rear cassette sprockets, or a triple/compact chainset - this "GS" version has a total capacity of 38 teeth. Clearly, this will be a little heavier than this version... Looking at ChainReactionCycles.com today (April 7, 2006), it's available at £49.99, saving 23% off the RRP of £64.95, so pick up a bargain... Overall, a top ...

MG ZR 105 - Cheap Thriller

Advantages: Cheap, looks good, performs well
Disadvantages: dated interior, parts not produced in mass

The MG ZR 105 was the first car I personally owned, opting to go for the + edition, it came with electric windows, sun roof, and central locking and on alloys as standard. So from the off it's a stylish little number with the goodies list continuing with half vinyl leather effect seats, digital dash, roof spoiler and a front splitter fitted too. This is a 1.4 K series engine knocking out around 103bhp, a lot more than other 1.4's available on the second hand market including some of the vw golf range. Overall the car is very attractive, available in MK1 and a facelift MK2 model, my bias would suggest that MK1 is more athstetically pleasing and indeed many would agree, those who own the facelift model likely would not. The steering of the car is nice and if you give it enough throttle you'll feel a new lease of life in every ...
