Advantages: Everything. These reels are the dogs bits. Disadvantages: Maybe the fact that when the freespool is on you have to turn the reel handle a full 1/2 a turn to engage the clutch. Can be a bit daunting when you first start using the reel and your used to picking up the rod and striking before reeling in.
...After over 25 years of fishing and in that time i have swapped many reels and am always looking for a better deal. Anything that comes on the market that makes fishing easier is always worth a look.
The shimanobaitrunner is truely the bees knees when it comes to carp fishing, and at a very resonably price. i know the daiwa emblem's are good but for quality and price you can't beat the Shimano.
The first thing that strikes you about the reels is he quality. Just looking at one and you can see that it has been made with hard fighting fish in mind. Which ever one you decide on and there are a few. you will not be dissappointed. You get all the lingo with it like line lay, ball bearings, anti-reverse gearing, all is a bit much for an average angler.

Advantages: Best proven baitrunner on the market, rear drag switch... Disadvantages: Not that I am complaining off. Maybe a free spool would be nice.

When I did sea fishing, my favorite method are live-baiting for mid/ top water species and bottom fishing for bottom/ near bottom dwellers. Live-baiting is self-explainatory, free-lining. There are two drag to set, baitrunner drag can switched-on for minimal drag and front drag pre-set for hook up. Having resistance from the line often made the predator let go of the bait, hence hook rate is substantially low. No friction mean the predator hold it longer. The drag sound would alarm me of when to set the hook. Pick up the rod, hold the reel handle, give it halfturn and set the hook. The real drag immediately kicked-in and the real fun begin. There would be some awkward time to adjust to have to half-turn the handle, got used...

...I recently purchased 2 Shimano 8000 GTE-B baitrunners and wow how have I managed to fish before without them. I'm yet to find a fault with them. With the ability to adjust the baitrunner and drag with ease and my casting distances have increased dramatically enabling me to fishing in areas that were unreachable with my previous reels. Yes they cost £74.99 per reel but they last for years (My dad has had a pair for 12 years and they are still quality).
I'd definitely say that these are the best reels I've ever used and I've been fishing for 15 years so I've had my fair share of reels over the years. They also look good finished in silver with a strong line clip for when you need to recast to the same area, as many of you know a good line clip is essential.
