...pull the trigger, the electronics take over firstly, the software decides if the trigger pull is a valid one (has it been pulled long enough) this is determined by the TPUL setting...once it decides that it is valid, the SEAR SOLENOID, is activated, for a set amount of time (SEAR ON or SON), and pushes a plunger upwards, to make the sear release the hammer.
The hammer, is connected to the cocking rod and is under spring tension.
Once the SON time (around 4m/s) has elapsed...the sear solenoid disengages and teh COCKING DELAY or CDEL time countdown starts...what this does, is allows time for the hammer, to go forward, strike teh valve, which allows gas to pass through teh valve, from teh air chamber described earlier, up through the bolt, out teh end, pushing teh ball out of teh barrel.
Once the CDEL time has elapsed (around 3-6 m...

Advantages: Excellent reliability, shifting, and ease of setup Disadvantages: Price, Price and Price
...I've had an X-7 on my hardtail now for 2 years of MTB riding.
It was a doddle to fit. Remove old derailleur and chuck in bin, Bolt on shiny new X-7, set high limit screw, attach cable, pull tight with pliers, and do locknut up. Amazingly it changed perfectly without needing any further adjustment.
Changing is extremely smooth. Downshifts while pedalling are impressively good. I hardly have to back off at all when changing down. This is a huge bonus on hills. Up shifts are good too, if a little slower than downshifts.
Durability and reliabilty are impressive. I have bounced this thing off rocks, covered it in so much mud you couldn't even see it, washed it in rivers, and generally abused it, and still it keeps changing.
I have been through 2 sets of jockey wheels, there is now play in the cage arm, and changes are not quite as smooth...

Advantages: LightWeight, indestructible, good price Disadvantages: not the Cheapest of Cranks
...The Middle burn Rs7 Cranks have been around for years now because there is nothing better on the market.
4 Years ago I bought a set to go on my pashley trials bike. I had been ridding for 3 years, and needed something that could keep up I had bent a pair of cheap cranks then replaced them with some FSA cranks I then Proceeded to smash them against every thing until also bent.
Then they had to be grinded of my bike as they would not come off the bottom bracket. So I decided to invest in a set of Middle burn cranks I had seen at the bike show. At the time they set me back £180 with a bash ring and 22 Tooth chain ring. I put them on straight away unlike other cranks the bash ring is fixed to the crank via a large nut that attaches to the thread of the crank, this means there is no week point and the crank is almost one piece making...
