Again, the trousers are from the Tog24 factory shop (www.tog24.com - it will have a store locator on the site).

Again, the trousers are from the Tog24 factory shop (www.tog24.com - it will have a store locator on the site). Although the official price is quoted at £49, these were reduced by £10. The price did sway me a little I have to admit, as there were some cool looking camoflaged trousers round the other side of the stand. I then thought, "why do I want to be hard to spot on a ski slope? If I have an accident I want to be found, not blend in to the landscape . . It's just Pants ! ! ----------------------
The Snowcaps come in three colours, Olive, Grey Camo(flage) and the ones I bought, which were the plain black. (This was the only colour left at the shop at the time anyway) The other thing with black is that it wouldn't clash with the jacket colour. (Did I just worry about clashing colours there? Oh dear . . . )
The trousers are pretty comfortable when on, and have good padding, They zip up at the front and secuire with a couple of press studs. Also two velcro adjusters round the back, can tighten the waist up if oyu need it. You get two zipped hip pockets, one on each side, and two long zipped thigh pouches. Also a back zipped pocket. Also round the back of the trousers, you get two press studs which will clip it to the base of the jacket for a bit more weather protection. This looks like the norm with the Tog 24 gear, so you shgould be able to mix and match different combinations of panst and jackets..
I had thought that the as you can unzip the snowskirt from the jacket, that you could zip the pants to it: This is how my motorcycle leather two piece fastens together. As I could not find a zip on the bak of the Snowcap trouser though, I was informed by the Tog24 staff that this wasn't the case - its just the press studs. Any zips that you may find on the back of their trousers are for attaching braces to.
The inner ining at the bottom of each leg is elasticated and can tighten with velco fastners. Also the fasteners have a press stud tab too, but I don't have any other equipment that this fastens to yet. Wether this would be to the inner liner of a ski/ board boot I'm not sure. Anyhoo - This inner liner slips into your board boots, then the outer layer has enough stretch on it to go outside the main boot and then zips up. You dont want anything really thicker than the inner liner going inside (like some people have stuffed their trousers, jeans etc) otherwise when your boots are laced / bound up, you will restrict blood flow to your feet and ankles. This will have two effects, one is your feet will get cold pretty quicly if the blood isn't getting to them, the other is you won't be able to control the board as easily if your feet are going numb.
The trousers also incorporates "Recco" material. Which is designed to be reflective to detection equipment. This is used to help track people who may be covered in snow in the event of an avalanche or other occurance. According to what I've read about this system on the internet. This material doesn't have any effects on other technology used for detection. So that's always a bonus as it doesn't seem to affect the price adversely.
Slip slidin' away ----------------------
As with the jacket, I have only worn these at Xscape, Castleford. but with the experience of riding a motorbike in Icy conditions, I know what it is to be so cold you are afraid that your fingers will snap off if you try to remove your gloves. These trousers should do the business on the snow covered mountainsides. Again like the jacket, they are breathable and not once did I feel too hot, or my legs get soaked with sweat.
The most you will notice any restriction on movement is when strapping yur boots into the board, which usually means sitting down and bending (to touch your toes) while you pull the straps round your boots. These didn't give me a problem and I think the only restriction you may have here is if you have difficulty bending to touch your toes anyway. When on the board I didn't have any problems. Although the outer liner did cause a very slight problem getting in the way of the straps while strapping in -
After the impact with the other boarder on the slope, I did go down quite heavily on my left hip, and I did have a slight ache for the next ten minutes or so. Nothing really worrying though and by the time my session had ended it had gone off anyway.
Ah roll on Winter, and the snow covered slopes of Aviemore . . (well not roll hopefully,)
Advantages: excellent tuition and horses Disadvantages: might have to wait to get a place
I used to ride at snowdon but stopped when i got my own horse as i couldn't afford both. I went their for several years after starting riding at another school that although it became an ABRS school it was actually shocking. On discovering Snowdon, i had to wait to get a place but it was worth the wait as the tuiton, facilities and horses were all fantastic. i had many class lessons and a few privates and learnt a lot of new skills. I wouldnt class ...
