I discovered Sportabac long turn out socks two years ago through sheer desperation. My horse started to suffer really bad mud fever because the fields where she's kept were very muddy during winter. I've tried all the creams and grease available but nothing seemed to help so I searched the internet and found these boots.
I bought about 8 sets of these boots so I can change them daily and have a set in the wash. Be careful when washing these boots in your washing machine because if you don't rinse the mud off them beforehand it can break your machine ( I know because I did it!)
A down side to these boots are that when they are worn in the field they get extremely muddy and as they get washed alot they do get worn out but mine have lasted two winters so far and only one set has lost a velcro fastening.
Depending on where you buy these boots from they usually cost about £25. The size range is very good starting from small to extra large but there is a measuring guide if you're not sure. I bought mine from a local saddlery and off the internet.
Sportabac boots come in a long and short range and they come in black with four velcro fastenings. They are styled so that they cover your horses heels were mudfever usually begins. The boots can twist round if the mud is very bad but have never caused my horse any sores or discomfort.
The boots cannot be worn for more than twelve hours at a time which suits my horse as she comes in at night. The boots aren't really suitable for horses turned out all winter so they are only recommended for stabled horses. Also another disadvantage to these boots is if your horse has mudfever you can't use the boots until it has cleared up otherwise it'll rub and make it worse.
I can take off the boots in the evening now and check her legs because they're nice and clean for a change! I highly recommend these boots if you have a horse or horses that are turned out during the day which are prone to mudfever.
More adavantages to using these boots: my horse is slightly arthritic and the boots seem to help keep her legs warm and a little less stiff plus they have protected her legs from brushing and being kicked.
Please don't hesitate to email me about any queries about the boots or the review, thank you for reading!

Advantages: Effective, durable protection Disadvantages: Mud tends to stick so frequent washing needed
...bought 3 pairs of long Sportabac socks from my local saddlery for approx £26 each in Dec 2003. My horse had suffered a horrific injury to the lower part of her left hind, leaving very little flesh on the bone and after 4 weeks at the vets she was going stable crazy!
The long turnout socks held the very large dressing in place and protected it from the elements so I could turn her out during the day - which I am sure aided has her recovery. As the ... ...ride her in a sand manege - and they successfully kept all the sand off the dressing whilst helping protect against brushing.
Now they protect the still delicate scar tissue when she is turned out as well as keeping the mud off.
After a year of wearing the socks each day - she has had absolutely no rubs. I have managed with just 3 pairs - so they have taken some hammer. Only now, after a full year of use, is the velcro starting to weaken and they ...
