'Walking in the rain...'

Advantages: A superb introduction to the Emerald Isle's walking possibilities...
Disadvantages: ...so long as you've been previously introduced to walking in the first place

feel a sense of intimacy. I had a few coffee table compilation books covering the whole British Isles (and therefore possessing Irish sections), but these were books whose gloriously enticing photos and slightly limited route selections were unfortunately wrapped up in rucksack-unfriendly dimensions. I did also have a casually acquired copy of Paddy Dillon's corkingly idiosyncratic 'The Mountains Of Ireland', with its rubbish diagrams and 'interesting' peak criteria (sod maths, if Paddy liked the look of it it was in). Basically, nothing entirely satisfactory. (Later on, I acquired Lonely Planet's guide to Irish walking too, because a man can never have too many guidebooks to pore over while otherwise engaged in the smallest room in the house: a good selection, but cluttered with too much extraneous information and containing at least one ...

Walking on air!

Many years ago on a holiday to the Isle of Skye I discovered I had forgotten to pack my walking boots! A trip to the Island outdoor shop was necessary and after trying on several different makes I finally opted for a pair of Merrell walking shoes. Fast forward almost a decade and I can honestly say these were the best pair of shoes I have ever bought. Sadly after walking many miles my shoes had started to show their age! A few months ago I decided it was time to buy a new pair. Having had such a positive experience with Merrell I knew I wanted to stick with the brand. A trip to my local Milletts revealed a few styles in the Merrell range. I have fairly skinny ankles and so find that high walking boots tend to rub my ankle bone. For this reason I wanted a trainer like walking shoe. I didn?t want anything to heavy either .The Merrell ...

For a happy walk!

My 2 year old setter is still a work in progress as far as training goes. We have done the rounds of puppy and dog training and have the certificates to prove it! However he is still not reliable at coming back when called. Having a tasty treat in my pocket certainly helps to persuade him to return to me, his so called pack leader! In Tesco recently I spotted a plastic container of Bakers happy walks on sale. As they were on offer for under £1 I decided to buy a box. Bakers happy walks come in a white plastic flip top container. They are the perfect size to fit in a pocket. On pulling back the foil seal I was struck by the very strong smell! It wasn?t unpleasant just a very powerful meaty smell, the kind my dog loves! Each treat looks like a very small roll about the size of a cigarette stub. Inside the roll is a darker layer of meat ...
