Advantages: Great illustrations, develops children's imaginations. Disadvantages: None
'Little Cloud' is one of the less well known Eric Carle books in comparison to the 'The very hungry caterpillar' and 'The bad-tempered ladybird'. It is nonetheless, definitely worth a mention as it is a charming book, well loved by the children I have read it to.
~ The Story ~
It's about a little cloud who drifts along in the sky behind all of the other larger clouds which eventually move out of it's sight.
The little cloud who now feels like a giant cloud as it isn't being 'dwarfed' by all of the larger ones, drifts along and changes itself in to many things: a sheep, an aeroplane, a shark, a rabbit etc.
On each change of shape a reason is given for the little cloud changing in to it's chosen object, e.g. it loved to watch rabbits dash across the meadow & it liked the way trees never moved and stayed in one place ...
Advantages: Beautiful photography, loads of tattoos Disadvantages: The text at the beginning is boring.
I became obsessed with tattoos at a very young age; I would look for tattoos on people and often ask them what their tattoos meant and why they got them. Predictably at about 14 years old I started to want a tattoo. I pestered my Mum for two years solid and when I was 16 she thought she'd call my bluff. She marched me into a tattooist and told me to pick a tattoo and get it done there and then. She thought I would wimp out but I didn't and I still love the tattoo I got that day. I guess some people are just meant to get ink.
Anyway, I digress the point in hand is the fabulous book, "1000 Tattoos". I found this little gem in a bookshop that was closing down for the princely sum of £1.00 although on Amazon copies are selling from £17.30 to £52.39.

Advantages: a beautiful, amazing and subtle book. Disadvantages: david mitchell's style can be an aquired taste.
Having read David Mitchell's previous books Ghostwritten and Number9Dream, I was very excited when Cloud Atlas arrived, and I was not disapointed. Some people say that it is disjointed but I actually think that is it the very opposite. It is, in effect, a collection of short stories, all interlinked, that give an incredibly rich novel by the end, and I believe that these stories flow quite seemlessly into one another.
There are definately stories within the book that I prefer, but when you re-read the book you notice things that you didn't the first time round - links that you missed for example, and my favourite stories tend to change with each reading.
If you are looking for a book that is a little out of the ordinary then I would definately recommend this. It is great to read on the train, or on holiday. I have recommended it to ...
