So England won The Ashes, as expected only a fag paper between them in the series, the said N-Power Rizla given to Strauss to roll a nice cigar, a very impressive young man and leader. Shame he's South African like half the bloody England team now! The series wasn't as good as 2005, hence the muted post match celebrations, two average teams now 4th and 5th in the world respectively. But what is was, of course, was entertaining and the stepping stone ...

Advantages: well maintained, good facilities, hacking in Trent Park, easy to get to Disadvantages: busy, disorganised, expensive
and although I pre-booked my lessons, they continued to place me with instructors that I hadn't previously been taught by. This meant that virtually every lesson, it was back to basics for the first 20 or so minutes while the instructor worked out what I could and couldn't do and while I tried to build my trust in the instructor.
The different instructors can have very different training styles (especially as some are student instructors and some are full-time qualified instructors) and sometimes taught me different and contradictory methods to each other, so time was spent unlearning what I was taught in the previous lesson.
TPEC is a major instructor training centre, so many of the instructors are in the process of being trained.

TPEC also offers specials such as hacking, pub rides, parties pony days/weeks, lunge ...
Advantages: Good instructors; lovely horses and very patient instructors Disadvantages: Can be pricey if you have private lessons, but other than that there are none.
I too am an older rider at Callum Park and I would say to anyone who is thinking of taking up horse riding - then this is the place to come if you live within travelling distance. Yes it is a bit expensive, but all decent riding schools are nowadays. Whether you want to just learn the basics, or develop skills in jumping and dressage, there are instructors and horses to suit your requirements.
I regularly join the hacks in the summer months and I also take part in the group jumping lessons, both of which I enjoy. I have also learned a lot and my basic riding skills have really improved.
I would urge anyone to give it a go. As long as you have the correct riding wear, then the only expense is the weekly lesson (and if you join in group lessons then the cost is very reasonable).
Go on, have a go, you won't regret it. ...
