Rock Shox Tora

Advantages: Price, stiffness, travel, durability
Disadvantages: Average weight

Rock Shox seem to have the budget corner of the fork market well and truly cornered and this latest tora is no exception. Other manufacturers budget forks are cheap, heavy, flexy and not very pleasant to ride on but the tora blows away all these expectations. It comes in at a sensible (but no lightweight) weight, but makes up for this with excellent lateral stiffness. The travel is extremely plush for a fork in this price range and absorbs both small ...

Review of Rock Shox Tora 302 U-Turn 2008

Budget Priced Power!

Advantages: Looks awesome, Feels great when landing hard
Disadvantages: Weight, Performance on trials

...stronger stantions so that less Marzocchi DJ forks get them broken. The steerertube remains steel like it always has been but the steerer tube is reinforced for roughly the bottom 3-4 inches with a thick steel insert, this makes for less, or no Marzocchi DJ forks having the steerertube snap, which as you may know, can be deadly. If you have broken alot of forks then the DJ may be a solution, giving you more durablity, the cost is going to be in the ...
...also look for a 2003 Marzocchi DJ fork which will be significantly lighter (roughly 2.5 lbs.) because of alloy stantions, and a non-reinforced steerertube, but as I have said in the review, be prepared for a loss of strength and if your a rough rider, a snapped or damaged fork! Since the DJ forks are dirtjump forks, they don't work that well out of the box as a trail fork. First recomendation is to flush out the stock oil, and replace it with lighter ...

Review of Marzocchi 2005 Dirt Jumper 3

Marzocchi 2005 Dirt Jumper 1 20mm

Advantages: Very strong, stiff, versatile
Disadvantages: Heavy, marmite looks

This fork is aimed purely at the dirt jump and street market. For this reason they have been constructed primarily with strength in mind. The steerer tube is made from reinforced steel so there are no worries about cracking as on some of the older models of this fork. The stanchions are 32mm diammeter steel ensuring that they can withstand the constand abuse of dirt and street riding. All this steel does come at a price though, and that is the weight ...
...with aluminium steerer and stanchions (although I own both of these versions of the fork, and when in use the extra weight only seems to make a difference on long climbs, not the forks intended use, and therefore the weight is not a problem as far as I am concerned). The damping is Dual SSVF and has an external rebound adjuster, preload can be adjusted using an air pump which is not supplied with the fork. The lower legs of the fork are made from ...

Review of Marzocchi 2005 Dirt Jumper 1 20mm

Marzocchi 2005 Dirt Jumper 3

Advantages: Tough, reactive, rigid, looks the dogs
Disadvantages: a bit heavy, can be stiff before being worn in

First glance: At first glance these fork's definetly look very solid, sanctions are very shiny and the lower slider is a matte black which looks like a very thick finish, it is infact very tough to scratch too. The crown is pretty shiny and smudges easily, the finish on this isn't as thick as the slider and with a front brake the cable can rub against it and leave a mark. The steerer tube is quite hefty and thick and is 1 1/8inch which is pretty ...
...spring with the air preload being the only thing adjustable here, with no added air inside the fork at first was very stiff and standing on the bike pushing down hard i can barely hit 50% of the 100mm travel (i'm 11 stone) i'm sure with a softer spring you could get a softer ride but after wearing the fork in which took about 20 hours of hard riding the fork was pretty soft and very reactive. With much use on things like 3 foot drops to flat and ...

Highly Sprung

Advantages: Home servicing, adjustable looks
Disadvantages: Price

...sporting a fine set of Marzocchi MX Comp ETA forks and this is a great fork, l would recommend this product to anyone that really enjoys trails. It soaks up every bump that I throw in front of it and after ridding with it a while you kind of even forget that they are there. Also if the way most roads are at the moment it is nice to go over a pot hole and not get stress fractures up your arms when commuting. And the look the absolute business reminding ...
...legs The fork it self has got one of the legs that has a spring which I have had to buy firmer (due to weighing 160lbs) a very easy job for anyone who does there own servicing. And it second leg has a gas cylinder or as they call it the ETA system. I must admit when I first saw it I thought it was a total gimmick but after ridding and actually using I find that it is fantastic the way you can change the stiffness of the fork by simply adding or ...
